Vince McMahon: Open to selling the WWE

Just guessing here, but if he sells it, it will probably go to Steph or Shane

I wouldn't hold my breath on any major promotion giving the talent insurance unless they're required to.

Hard to say if it would be good for the future of wrestlers, or even just the business as a whole, without being close to the situation. I do think that there's a lot to be said for having an owner with the drive and passion for wrestling that Vince seems to have. Difficult to imagine that anyone he sold to would have either of those things to the same extent he does, unless maybe he keeps it in the family.

I had the same thought... even after all of McMahon's b.s. Strange to think of the WWE in anyone elses's hands... except for an actual Wrestler. But thats not happening. I'd be fine I think if Shane and Stephanie got it...

Insurance... yeah I'm DEFINTLY not holding my breath...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if McMahon does sell the business. After all, he's controlled the WWE for 30+ years and for the first sixteen of those years (up to the 'Invasion' storyline of 2001) he built it into a truly epic entertainment vehicle.

I do think that post-2001, when the WWE roster was flooded with sub-standard ex-WCW and ECW wrestlers, that the quality started to decline. When I tune in occasionally these days, I'm shocked by how poor the gimmicks, the characters, the promos, the in-ring action, and the general production is. I'm not sure which direction the company will head, post-Vince, when the time comes, but logically, HHH and Stephanie are next in line to take over.

Sure seems that way, with respect to HHH and Steph. So hey, Captured Doll, we may have a (basically retired, but still!) wrestler take over after all!

And hey, EtE, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think all of those things you mentioned are better Post-Attitude Era than they were before. What's missing, I think, is the sort of general excitement and interest in the product you saw before WCW was finished. A hot crowd makes wrestling feel so much more important and fun even when the product is lacking in quality.

The only way you'll get the WWE from Vince is if you pry it from his cold, dead hands. Everything about the man says that he treasures two things above all else, his family and his company. He won't part from either of them.

There's no doubt that the WWE is a lot more family-friendly nowadays; they've cleaned it up a lot, but I just felt that for excitement, unpredictability and entertainment, the Attitude Era was better. But then I did grow up in that period and got into wrestling in the late 90's, so that's why I've always favoured it. But times changes, wrestlers come and go! 🙂

I'm picking up what you're putting down for sure! Not trying to put down the AE at all. I think I was more just trying to say that the unpredictability and excitement you mentioned are what's missing from WWE today more than a lack of a quality product, if that makes sense.
