Tonight after work I dropped by my favorite club...the American Legion. I got to chatting with a few folks and politics came up. I don't like discussing it because I'm a democrat and they're of the other prosuasion. But it all boiled down to the fact that the country's in trouble is that people don't vote.
I took a pole, and of the 15 people in the hall tonight only 6 voted in the last governatorial election. Imigine that. Only 6 voted.
I'd like to get just a little input here from everyone. Who all voted in the last major election in their community.

I have voted in every Federal election (even numbered years) since I was eligible, and I vote in some local elections in odd numbered years also.

Why? While there may be nobody worth voting for in any given election, there is always somebody worth voting against. In other words, I never say that I am voting for the lesser of evils, but that I am voting against the greater.

Hi, milagros,

I always vote and have used it against the 'greater' more than once.

I believe it is a privilage, regardless of choices that fall short
of what many of us -many- know our country's potential to be.

sigh...

A two party system seems to have most of us spending just
too much of our live's agenda on "the vote". Time that might be spent
towards our state senators and representatives and the things that
make them who or what they are...

For whatever my one vote is worth, I do so, in every election. I guess I figure we are fortunate enough in this country to have that opportunity, we have an obligation to make the process work. Besides, I know I have no right to complain afterwards about the outcome if I stayed away from the voting booth. I suppose I earn my right to complain for the next few years as long as I exercise the right to vote. 🙂

I actually just discussed this with my dad today, and we both decided there should be a "None of the above" option when both candidates are worthless.😀

I have voted since I have been able too...umm that would be about 3 elections.

Echoing what others have said...I vote because I can and I too vote for the lesser of the evils.

VOTE!!!!

Until the electoral college is thrown out and Instant Runoff Voting is implemented, democracy in the U.S. will remain a highly corporate and futile process. The electoral college inflates the value of votes in less populated states and neglects the interests of people who vote for the less popular candidates in their respective states. Instant Runoff Voting would solve the problem of "Third-Party upsets" in elections by allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference, instead of hurting candidates that have similar Third Party counterparts. That being said, I vote, but only because I rarely have other plans on Election Day.

In holland we have many political parties, but seeing the fact that the hypocrisy of the larger parties sickens me so much I'd rather not vote, I decided that using my right to send in an empty vote is the perfect solution. Empty vote means no party gets your vote, but it does lower the amount of votes needed to get 1 seat in parliament...
