Let me just start out by saying that I am sick to death of owners/coaches/coordinators trying to transform this team into "this thing" or "that thing".
I am a purest. To me, the Niners have ALWAYS been these things:
Explosive and imaginative WEST COAST offense
Hard hitting/ball hawking defense
This is not what we have anymore sports fans.
As much as I loved the guy, it all started with Mooch. It all started with this run-to-set-up-the-pass idea and his irritatingly conservative play calling in crucial situations. However, we still had Garcia (who we should still have) and T.O. to pick up the slack.
Then we went through the dark time under a coach I will not mention who succeeded in turning a playoff caliber team into the joke of the league.
Then we got Nolan...and there was much rejoicing. But OH WAIT....he's got his OWN idea about what the team should be. Yeah, let's just ignore all that glory and winning history and try and turn the team into something else. Yeah, THAT's a good idea.
Here's MORE "good" ideas bozo the Nowin has given us:
First off, you know that perfectly good good 4-3 defensive alignment we have that's served us well for...oh...a million years? Yeah, that has to go. What this team needs is a good 3-4 defense. ???!!!
Secondly, let's forget all this explosive pass nonsense and re-structure the offense so it's built around the running back. ????!!!!!
Third, let's continue to build this team so it looks more and more like the Ravens by drafting heavy on the defensive side and pretty much ignoring the offense.
Fourth, let's tout Alex Smith as our quarterback...and then continue to prop him up after several injury plagued, mediocre seasons. I mean, seriously, no receiver is tall enough or short enough for Alex.
Fifth, let's prove game after game after game that the weakest, most pathetic teams in the league can not only out coach us, but out play us as well. This is a team that, despite the new scheme, has a decent defense, good special teams, and a good running back...and yet we keep losing.
Sixth, lets make sure Mike "Nowin" has plenty of goofy suits to wear so he can step up to the podium and throw out buzz words like "focus" and "finish" when he is, yet again, out coached.
Is Alex Smith (or Trent Dilfer for that matter) even CLOSE to a Steve Young, Jeff Garcia in talent? Remember Elvis Grbac or Steve Bono? Is he even close in talent and poise to them? Oh wait, he DOES remind me of someone we had once...I believe his name was Druckenmiller.
Remember that epic receiving corps we used to have? Jerry Rice...John Taylor...T.O...Dwight Clark....
...we have Arnez Battle now.
Now, I like Gore just fine, but shouldn't we also have a back that's a good out-of-the-backfield reciever? Remember when we used to like those? Names like Roger Craig and Ricky Waters come to mind. OH WAIT...we run the ball now.
Ok, to be fair, we DO still have Bryant Young and Derrick Smith and we picked up some good players in free agency, but that still doesn't change what Bozo the Nowin has been done to our once mighty team.
FIRE HIM! FIRE HIM NOW!!!
All of this isn't just coming from our 6 game losing streak...this is from years of watching my team circle the drain and forget it's identity.
Bring in a coach that actually remembers and honors our history. Bring in a coach that will re-instate our once mighty West Coast Offense and remember a little word called "creativity".
One last thing...does anyone else miss Bob Mckitrick?
