Well here is to the last really week of football. In two weeks, it will be about advertising and the pre-game hype and the halftime show and about the postgame. They MIGHT even fit a game in on February 4th. The Super Bowl is DEFINATELY not about the football fan. It is about the pomp and circumstance. So I will enjoy this weekend of football and know it is the last real weekend of football. Here are my picks for Championship Sunday!!!
New Orleans +2 1/2 @ Chicago--- Back in week#2 after the Saints dismantled the Atlanta Falcons I told friends that the Saints were a playoff bound team. I was told by them ( including a supposed expert here on the TMF ) that I was delusional. Here we are Championship Sunday and the Saints march on into Chicago. They are ( and rightfully so ) the underdog in this game. But lets be real here. If you started a team tomorrow are you starting with Rex Grossman or Drew Brees??? ( Don't answer Natural you will only embarrass yourself ). The Saints are a diversified offense. McAllister up the middle, Bush to the outside, Colston on a fly pattern, Horn ( if he suits up ) over the middle, Bush out of the backfield. They throw so much at you offensively. If the defense plays well, you have a serious case for the Saints. The Bears defense is banged up. They are missing T.Harris, B.McGowan, M.Brown, J.Williams, K.Long and D.Dvoracek on defense due to injury. And with Grossman running the offense, it is possible that if Rex is not on target that the defense can't bail him out. I will go with the Saints to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
New England +3 @ Indianapolis--- I hate New England. Don't you??? I will root on the Colts to win this game ( as I will root on the Saints in the other game ). But it is hard to pick against a winner. The Colts have yet to prove to me that they can beat the Patriots in a BIG spot. Payton Manning has played just two bad playoff games and yet here is. Maybe lady luck is on his side this time. But then again, has either team that the Colts beat had a Tom Brady on their team??? Nope!!! Tom Brady is the X-factor here. Brady played badly last week and yet the Chargers kept the Patriots in the game. If the Colts have the Pats down they MUST step on their throats. If they keep Brady and the Pats in the game, you know that Brady will beat them. So with that said, I will take the points and the Patriots to go to their fourth Super Bowl in six years.
This year's Super Bowl will be the Patriots versus the Saints!!! Though I will root hard for Colts/Saints and I loathe the Pats/Bears rematch of 1985-1986 season. Though that would be intriguing to see if the Pats can pound the Bears 46-10 like the Bears did then.
