Weird Internet problem

Has anyone had a problem when they are connected to the internet but they cannot connect to any sites?
I keep getting in the evening a message when I try to relod a webpage that there is a dns error connected with the shdocl.dll file.
Any suggestions?

nope i've never had that problem. if your running on Cable High speed internet or DSL High speed interent then you should not have that problem really at all.


just try maybe restarting the computer and running all your spy ware scan programs and your Anti virus wear program and the Defrag and then see what happens.

Yep, I've had that problem.

I don't know whether its macintosh specific or not, but check your 'proxie' settings in your web browser. If these are ever wrong, my internet still works, any messenger services work... but nothing in Internet Explorer will.

Hmm..

This sounds vaguely familiar. You didn't state whether you're running XP or not, but I seem to recall that this particular generic error message led to a Winsock problem that had a patch available for repair. Rebooting should flush the dns cache, so doubtful it's that simple. Can you type ip addresses directly into your addy bar and get results? Or use the detect network settings function successfully?

That's the trouble with troubleshooting by remote...lag time in answers...lol.

You might also want to post this up in the appropriate section on the TMF here and rope Marauder into the conversation...he always seems to have a few wacky options to try on most any problem.

This has only happened to me when the web page is busy or the site is down or something. It sometimes happens out of nowhere when I just conect too. I try opening something else that requires a conection, and if not I reconnect or restart the Internet Explorer.
