I wanted to post a thread describing some of the whacky ways and weird things that we drop in this area at midnight to celebrate the coming of a new year. I live in Lancaster, which is called the Red Rose City, so at midnight in our center city square, we will be dropping a red rose. York, our sister city, 20 miles west of here is the White Rose City, so they will be dropping.. you guessed it.. a White Rose. I dont know specificially what object each town in the area will drop to celebrate the New Year, but I do know that I just heard on the local news that anything from a pickle, to a screw, and other objects, will be dropped at midnight in various towns around here to celebrate the New Year.
Thank heavens for the opportunity to watch the good old ball in Times Square! Down here, they subject us to a split screen showing what weird object is being dropped in say, Harrisburg, York, or Lancaster for the New Year. 😡 My reaction to this is bah humbug, who cares about a rose, when I want to see the good old ball! As some of us remember, for a few years in the 80s, the ball used to be a red apple for a time, until they went back to the ball.
One thing I will miss tonight is watching Dick Clark on TV. He is a New Year's tradition. I like Regis, but it will be weird without Dick. I hope Mr Clark has a speedy recovery from his stroke, so he can be back in Times Square where we can all watch him next New Year's.
Happy New Year to all, oh, and just so everyone knows, I will NOT be going to Lancaster City tonight to see them drop the Red Rose in the square. (Big Yawn). I will instead be by the tv at midnight, to watch Regis say goodbye to 2004, and hello to 2005. Happy New Year everyone!😀
