Right now I am studying the russian language and culture and today got reading about the Chernobyl accident. Some of the things I read were mind-blowing.That is some scary sh*t right there.Seeing the pictures of the abandoned cities is a sad site to behold and it is said to be the worst technological disaster in history.:sowrong:

I remember...

I remember when it happened. This was a key event to the dissolving of the Soviet Union.

Scientists in Europe monitored some intense radiation coming from the east and didn't know what it was until the Soviets finally disclosed (days later) that a Nuclear Power plant had exploded in the Ukraine giving off tons of radioactive dust, which killed a few people at first but thousands some weeks later, and many more years later.

I'm for nuclear power as a peaceful source of energy, France has made it work, but there was a great deal of carelessness going at Chernobyl.

Before today I heard of Chernobyl but never put much thought into it.After reading into it, that is some seriously crazy stuff.

I remember doing a friend of mine at school doing a paper on the event and sharing with me the detailed stuff. Pretty horrific. The price we pay for our technological advancement, but still, quite a necessary risk, in my opinion. Terrible event, nonetheless...
