This thread asks what the best and worst movies everyone has ever seen are. Being as I see dozens of movies a year, I can fill this thread easily.
My Top Five all time movies.
1. Forrest Gump. Loved it! Hanks was awesome as the mentally challenged Southern man, with excellent support from Gary Sinise and Robin Wright Penn. (Then Robin Wright) I loved how the director clipped in scenes of Forrest involved in famous events in history
2. Prince of Tides. Another awesome movie, in my opinion, with Nolte as the tortured southern football coach who has to relive his childhood due to his sister's attempted suicide. Other great preformances by Barbra Streisand as the therapist, Kate Nelligan as Nolte's mother, and Blythe Danner as his wife.
3. Rain Man. A fantastic story, the tale of an austistic, marvelously played by Dustin Hoffman, and his opportunistic, somewhat unscrupulous brother, played by Tom Cruise. A very human story, with Cruise and Hoffman developing a good bond as brothers by the end of the film.
4. St Elmo's Fire: A well done tale of seven friends struggling to find themselves after graduation from Georgetown University. Well acted, human, friendly, funny, and a bit sad in parts.
5. Ray. I only saw this one recently, but it was an incredibly well put together movie, with what I feel is an academy award winning performance by Jamie Foxx. Mr Foxx not only played Ray to perfection, but as you watched the movie, you came to experience what the life of Ray Charles must have been like. One of the best acting performances I've ever seen.
My five worst movies.
1. Heaven's Gate. As I've stated on here, Michael Cimino, the movie's director, was my father's client for 20 years, so I was forced to sit through the screening in 1980 along with my parents, the director, cast, and such. It was never ending, disjointed, and downright stupid. No wonder it ended up in the book of Hollywood's most infamous movies, the Hollywood Hall of Shame. Knowing I had to be polite after the movie, I remember what happened when Michael came up to me and asked how I liked it. I remember saying: "It was very pretty, Mr Cimino, but it was too long" Accoring to the book, The Hollywood Hall of Shame, no film got less bang for its buck, it did terribly at the box office, and was pulled quickly, a $40 million stinker, which in 1980 was a HELL of a lot of money.
2.Leaving Las Vegas. I saw this film with my mom on my 28th birthday. I never recall being so disappointed in a movie in my life. It was poorly done, a horrible story, and downright depressing. I walked out of the theater that night with the movie on my worst flims ever list.
3. Moonlight Mile. A wonderful cast, with Hoffman and Susan Sarandon, but a terrible movie, it was morbid, plodding, and the story made no sense. I walked out saddened that such a great cast had been wasted on such a terrible movie.
4. Snake Eyes. Another Cage bomb. Started as the story of an offical assainated at an event, and went downhill from there. The movie never found itself, and deteriorated into oblivion.
5. I Heart Huckabee's. Another one I saw fairly recently, with a nice cast of Dustin Hoffman, Naomi Watts, and Mark Wahlberg. Again, a movie that made no sense. You never seemed to figure out what the characters were trying to accomplish, and some of the acting, storylines, and scenes were completely idiotic and moronic. Luckily for the movie going public, it seemed to strike out with them, and was pulled quickly.
Okay, those are my five best and worst. I would love to hear input from other forum members. Thanks.
