Lazarus,
When they did the first two Superman movies (All of Luthor's scenes was shot during the making of Superman 1 as Hackman would not come back for the reshoots in 1979), Lex Luthor was not the Tycoon that he is today. That happened during the revisionist of the DC characters that happend in the late 80's and ealy 90's. The Luthro in the film was the Luthor from the 40's. The scheming Luthor that was always in Hideouts. Originally Luthor was written much more evil. However, Warner's (even though they had no control over production, they did let Donner know they wanted this) Donner before filming that they couldn't have a really evil Luthor as written as they needed to be able to get kids, a big part of their core audience, into the theater with a really evil Luthor. So Donner and Mankelweicz toned him down and added the humor between the first and second Mankelweicz draft.
He-Man- REgarding the Dolf Lundgren He-Man movie. That was a Golan-Globus production. Even thought it looks like a big budget film it really was not. Golan and Globus was notorius for putting out movies on a really shoe string budget. That year they were making two of their most big budgeted movies (still small budget bey that days standards) Superman 4 and He-Man. Both got money from their budget taken away from them. it is actually suprising that both films look as good as they do. Especially He-man. At one point both films ran out of their money and the people were working on them for free with what they could muster. That is why no Prince Adam and no Battle Cat. They litterally couldn't afford it. They also only had the money for one CAstle set, so they decided to put the money into the Greyskull set and not have Prince Adam's Castle early on during the writing phase. So there was no need to even write Prince Adam into the plot. It also explains Superman's "rebuilding the Wall of China" vision. Originally superman was supposd to rebuild it with superspeed. They did the animation of the wall rebuilding, but didn't ahve the money to shoot teh plates of Superman taking the bricks and rebuilding it, so they took a cut away shot and added the Vision ray animation. In fact, some of the EFX artists were relegated to doing pick up shots. He talked abotu doing the shot of Clark putting the green crystal in his jacket in the barn. he said they drove around and found a farm where no one was home and just went into their barn to shoot hoping no one came home cause they didn't ahve any money to pay someone to rent their barn.
