Nothing Like It In The World by Stephen Ambrose, my favorite history author.

This is the story of the Transcontinental Railroad and the men who built it.

Citizen Soldiers, also by Ambrose.

The U.S. Army from Normandy to the surrender of Germany.

Peter The Great: His Life and World by Robert Massie.

As Tsar, Peter wrenched Russia out of the Middle Ages into the modern world.

Little Man: Meyer Lansky and the Gangster Life by Robert Lacy.
