I thought I'd never find someone who would mention George Lopez. Seriously, I have spent days in a frothing rage, mind filled with comebacks to half the shit he goes on about. From the Mexicans vs White People to the "Kids these days [suck ass and my generation is awesome]" (inside brackets is my interpretation). I mean, yeah some comedians were built on "My Race vs White People" like Dave Chappelle, but at least he threw in complimentary comments toward white people and pointed out the flaws in black people every now and then. Not to mention he called it quits at about the right time (very much IMO).
And, so it's been said, I have no issue with ethnic comedians poking fun at white folks...white people are fuckin' hilarious and I can take a good joke. But...if it's funny. Which George Lopez is not. He's just passive-aggressively insulting. And many times, not even all that "passive" about his aggression.
To agree with you, Dave Chappelle pulled off the whole white/black thing wonderfully. Everyone was fair game. Just to cite one example, his sketch about the blind, black White Supremecist...who didn't know he was black. He somehow managed to poke fun at both, and was hilariously funny in the process. The KKK is a part of "white folks" that needs to made fun of. At every possible turn. Only by reducing these fringe groups of humanity to jokes can we ever really eradicate them. It's when you take things too seriously or decide to "go to war" over it that you lend them credence. Which they should not have. Chappelle just fuckin' rocked at doing that.
