Jeter, a career .314 hitter is batting .266 right now, and having the worst offensive year of his entire career. What is going on with him? Is it just a bad year, or could the effects of age be finally hitting the guy that seemed like he was never gonna get old.

There seems to be a lot of this going around in baseball this year. Nick Markakis is a prime example here in Baltimore. Just 8 home runs and 45 RBI in 130 games this season for a guy that usually averages around 20 and 100. Players hide injuries sometimes, so I wonder if players like Jeter and Markakis fit that bill.

Jeter's case is just age and the toll of his position, whereas Markakis' decline in power and driving in runs is directly related to batting in a horrible lineup all year. He for most of the year was the only threat in the lineup, so opposing pitchers didn't need to challenge him and instead pitched around him. Yes its hard to see his homerun numbers be down, but his doubles numbers are up, so he's still hitting the ball but can only do so much when no one is getting on, no one is protecting him, or he's always coming up in situations that favor the pitchers.

What's wrong with Jeter? Is he not entitled to one bad season in his career? The better question is what is wrong with you to even ask that question. Here is a man who is a model of consistancy and character both on and off the field and you question what is wrong with him? Damn...

He has been the model of consistancy that all players wish they could be. I was saying something useful about Jeter. A man who has been such a model of consistancy not only as a Yankees but a role model to Major Leaue Baseball fans, to ask what is wrong with him is just wrong. Every fan in Major Leaue Baseball wishes Jeter was part of their team. Wy? Because he adds class. To question what is wrong with him makes you clueless.

I hear you, and what you say can't really be debated. I've just been seeing a steady decline in Nick's homer totals since the sweet .300-23-112 season of '07. Modestly so, but I do wonder if this is becoming the norm for him. Hopefully we'll be able to land a big bat or two to help him, at the very least, revert back to his career averages.
well said, having been a Yankees fan all my life Jeter is the type of player right up there with all the yankee greats! He ALWAYS shows class and determination. I don't think you can keep a good man down....he will rise again.

As far as Jeter goes, I think there has been a reduction in power accross the board this year. This is the first year that has been the year of the pitcher. Pitchers are having better years this year than they had in the past ten years due to big brother watching. There is nothing wrong with Jeter. He is like 35 so he might be slowing down a bit but he is on the verge of 3,000 hits and a first ballot hall of famer. If he is not putting up the #'s he has in the past it's because of the cracking down on steriods and such.
On a personal note, rivers12, you are a fucking asshole!!! (Please pardon my French, but this clown deserves it) and I DO NOT like you one iota. Rivers, I have seen you out on other threads antagonizing others members who have been here alot longer than you have and posted alot more than you have! They have contributed alot to this forum than you ever will. If you bothered to even look into this a forum even just a little, Ticklingfeet4fu has contributed a weekly football pool for our entertainment (which you probably just blackballed yourself out of) for a number of years and he has done a great job. He also knows more sports in his pinky than you do in your brain and ass combined. I talk sports with him all the time and the man knows his shit.
