Mine is sweet potatoes, this year I am going to make candied sweet potatoes taken from a recipe from Food TV , its listed as a down south recipe. Yum Yum

Anyone have a favorite Thanksgiving recipe they would like to share??

I have a really simple way of making delicious corn bread:

4 boxes Jiffy or another corn muffin mix
1 large can creamed corn
1 stick butter
6 large eggs
1 cup milk (estimated, the batter should be moist but not thinned out, you can add a bit more or less if you eyeball the mixture)

Mix all together and pour into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 till just turning golden and a tooth pick inserted comes out clean.

This will probably make enough for 10-12 people

PS...I never really measure alot of my ingredients I just cook!! LOL

My favorie Thanksgiving dish is the drumstick of the turkey. (I like legs in more ways than one.😀 )

Mom's Homemade Oyster dressing. hands down!! my mouth is already watering!!!

I'm a HUGE fan of green bean casserole. I make a double batch for Thanksgiving every year. YUMMY!

Mimi 😀

P.S. The recipe for green bean casserole can be found on any can of Durkee's French Fried Onions.

A nice big slab of tickle pie...

...often with a generous dollop of cool-whip. Oh, wait...

...that's supposed to read pumpkin pie! 🙄 My mistake. 😛

I hate turkey... LOL

So my favorite is the mac and cheese. My weakness.

Ooooo and pound cake. Mmmmm (That explains it)

Oooo and my sister's homemade bread. She doesn't make it anymore. Sigh. It used to melt in your mouth.

I love the holidays.

I just love making pie's....lol

I miss my Mom's spread: her homemade stuffing, her potato salad...and the appetizers like the hot spinach dip that my sister, my dad and I would polish off faster than Barry Sanders on the big screen.
Oddly enough, family and friends down in Florida have insisted that she bring, to the Thanksgiving feast she plans to attend, her homemade chopped liver...even though that's something she usually makes for religious holidays. I guess we're not the only ones who thought it was that good! I'm going to my in-laws for Thanksgiving, and that's nice...but I'd rather be with my own family, and unfortunately the money for such a trip's not there.
My mom makes her stuffing a certain way...it always came out very light, and very moist, very well seasoned. In past years, I always wrapped up some to take home. Mrs Knox has her own way of making stuffing that she likes. I'm not saying it's bad, because it really isn't, but I'm not used to stuffing being so thick that even gravy can't change the consistency of. She likes it that way. I think the consistency's just right, though, to use for various household projects...

My favorite Thanksgiving dish(s):

LEFTOVERS

i love the turkey!

i love turkey so much that i have used the line from the 3 stooges; when asked what they want for desert, they say another turkey!
with appologies to sunrise, i hate mac and cheese!
i and my mother make a killer sage dressing/stuffing. light, fluffy, aromatic, delicious!
punkin pie is the best, esp. warm. whip cream is optional.
another good food is the stuffed celery, love that stuff.
knox, does your sister put apple in her chopped liver?

Rose McGowan trussed up like a turkey on my dining room table.

Yeah, JPie, cornbread is a ok with me. I also like mac and cheese too. Not out the box, but homemade casserole style

Traditionally, at our house, it's dumplings...little bits of dough stewed in the turkey juices. If someone fails to make them, it's tantamount to WW3 at our house. Some years, there has been blood shed over WHO will make the dumplings. Usually, it's the loser who gets the privilege because it's tedious and time consuming - and not to mention oh so much to have flour fights in the pristine kitchen 🙂 Used to be as a kid, I despised the little things. Now, I can't picture Thanksgiving without them. I even made some when I was overseas celebrating turkey day with some other expatriates (thanks to those handy little envelopes of Bisquick - thanks Mom and the USPS!). But everyone else's dishes sounded wonderful, too. Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it (or if you're my sister and like Sunrise despise turkey, order a pizza!).

Decisions, decisions!

Normally, I prefer to nibble on the drumsticks, but in this case, I'm thinking I'd have to go back for at LEAST seconds...

No, Steve...onions, eggs...stuff like that. It's my mom's thing...I miss it.
My mom made all the holiday stuff...and one of them I brought home- let's call it for what it was, a sort of ethnic 'soul food' that, when described, would turn off the unwashed. Well, I told my wife what it was, and she literally freaked. She wouldn't be in the house when I cooked it. I thought it was hilarious.
Steve, I'm reduced to buying chopped liver at the Glatt Kosher, and adding all the forbidden ingredients that make it not kosher anymore.
Jen, if you're ever down here, you're more than welcome.
I make sure it's chopped chicken liver, anyway. Calf liver to me is about as appetizing as the air filter in my pickup.

You never ceased to amaze me with your comparisons, Knox. Air filters would not make any garnish to any meal😀 too funny, man😀

Natural, I'm tellin' ya, man, I can't think of many things more frightening than fried calf's liver with onions. When they made it on my ship, I used to slap together something hastily and eat it outdoors, the smell was even worse than that of diesel fuel, or even the dirty laundry in the berthing. Yecch!
They used to make some awful stuff. Like pickled eggs. Eggs in beet brine. I never tried it, I never had the guts. I did try, however, the Lebanon balogna. It's Minnesota Vikings purple, and smells like cat shit. I complained about it to the galley watch captain, and he said, "look, I don't tell you how to plot radar, do I, MFer?"
Those were the days 😀

Eeewww Liver and Onions *gag*....the best part of Thanksgiving is thing my mom makes i call it the Jello Thingy..it is cherry jellow with whipped cream and nuts

I thought this thread was supposed to be out FAVORITE dishes. Liver??? Gag me with a pitchfork!!
