The PS3...I just saw it at Walmart yesterday for $600. My food bill doesn't even cost that much!

Hell its half of what I paid for my car! what the hell is in the console...pure gold wiring instead of copper?

I thought Microsoft was nuts..it seems Sony is in the lead now.

They charge that much because they know people will pay for it

Just cause it is something new.
This time next year, they will be lucky to squeeze more than $100 out of customers for it, when superduper Xbox and playstation 4 come out..
And people are paying a fortune [4 figures] on ebay.

Aside that, video games are not making the strides they once were.
Atari 2600 to nintendo = improvement.
Nintendo to 16 bit systems = improvement.
Nowadays, it is hard to tell the difference. Gamecube and xbox have almost identical graphics and the games are pretty much the same.

And like Zod said - cause ppl will pay it. And some time down the road, they will sell it to a pawn shop for $35.

Zod-Actually, it's bombing, largely because of the price.

TG4U-The cost is because Sony insisted on including a blu-ray drive in the hardware as opposed to giving an option of a core system and a more elaborate one.

it seems they are getting greedy for the consumers money. what they dont realize is that a high price...while getting more money from a few customers wouldn't make up for the rest of the gamers that won't pay that. So they would actually make more money by lowering the price not raising it because then more people would buy it.

True, but another thing that causes the price to be so high with new products - they must make up for THEIR initial cost of putting out a new product. Well the is one of the big reasons new shit is so much.
So maybe even if they wanted to charge just say $200, they may not make any profit anytime soon, if at all.

And yes, companies have always been greedy.

The funny thing is, lots of the people that are buying these ps3 for 600 dollars are not the crazy one.. many of these people are turning around and selling these things on ebay with people bidding 2 grand for them.. a buddy of mine bought one for this same purpose to sell it, but the retard got excited and open it.

I think they just got arrogant after winning the console wars the previous two times. They thought people would pay whatever they asked.

Personally, if I was going to get one of the next-gen systems, it'd by the 360 anyway.

Video game companies don't make money off of their systems; they make it off of games. The PS3 doesn't have many games, and most of them are also available for the 360. Who wants to spend that much money for a couple of games?

A regular Blue Ray DVD player goes for about the same as a PS3 does. Maybe when the price of Blue Ray comes down the price of the PS3 may drop, but not to $100.

Six HUNDRED? Shoot, open bidding might yield six THOUSAND lol

I mean, sure, it's outrageous to pay that much money on a video game system, especially considering that most of us pay less than that on our rent/mortgage/housing payment monthly. But like it was already said on this post, SOMEONE will pay that. And once the Joneses do, their next-door neighbors, the Jameses, will HAVE to buy one, otherwise little Billy Bob Jones will brag at school all day long about his brand new system, and Fishy Ed James will pout and cry and rankle and scowl until Big Papa James buys HIM one, too. And Heaven forfend these kids actually worry about getting an education while they're in school, but that's a separate issue...point is, it's gustapo bleedin-blood-from-turnips economics at its best, and it's sad to think that, before the turn of the decade, we may actually see a four-figure price tag on a video game system. Heck, it makes me wanna break out my old Atari 2600.

I'm just curious about how good the PS3 is! Hanv't yet seen it! Anyone wanna tell me how good it is? Graphics, Sound, Music etc....

TA :cool2:

:yowzer: Six hundred dollars? :yowzer:

I have playstation 2. I got it for Christmas this year for 129.00.
I buy my games primarily in used condition to save money.
The average cost of new playstation 2 games in between 30 - 40 dollars.
Four new games equal the cost of the playstation.

I'm very happy with it and since there is a large amount of Playstation 2 games available in used condition right now, I'm not thinking of upgrading.

Sad part is that most xbox 360 and ps3 games will be no price different than their predecessors the ps2 and xbox.

Better technology eventually becomes available at cheaper prices. To me, the sad part is that I used to pay $50 a pop for old NES cartridges back in the day, which the data for NINE of them could fit onto a 3.5 floppy disk today.

I can just hear someone now, "Floppy disk??? Man, you're in the STONE age! Get a flash drive!"

:: old man voice::: Y-you durn kids today! You want more and more storage on those fancy-shmanshy "flash" drives. Ah rember mah first computer when ah was your age..an Apple II GS. We only had hard drives and floppy disks. And the floppy disks were actually FLOPPY! And Nintendo wouldn't let you kill that damn dog on "Duck Hunt" wether he laughed at you or not!

(that'll probably me what I--and people my age-- will probably be saying 30-40 or more years from now lol)
