With all this talk of literary interests and engagements, I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon, despite being 60lbs overweight.

This time, why not talk about what's on our list of books TO read?

Considering that some of us--myself included--have lists several hundred titles long, let's stick to a timeline of the next few months to next year.

My list:

THE WHEEL OF TIME Series - Robert Jordan (yeah, I know, next 3 years is more like it)
The Difference Engine - William Gibson
The Magus - John Fowles
Mason & Dixon; Against the Day - Thomas Pynchon
Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace
The Flanders Panel - Arturo Perez-Reverte
The Glass Bead Game - Herman Hesse
The Island of Lost Maps: A True Story of Cartographic Crime - Miles Harvey
Something Happened - Joseph Heller
The Last Temptation of Christ - Nikos Kazantzakis

Benjamin Franklin. A biography of the great man by Edmund S. Morgan.

Dark Safari by John Bierman. This book examines the life and times of journalist - explorer Henry M. Stanley.

Mark Twain: A Life by Ron Powers.

Sword of San Jacinto: A Life of Sam Houston by Marshall De Bruhl.

Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Commanches. by S. C. Gwynne.

Just a few more, if I may.

Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power by Jon Meacham.

Daniel Boone by John Mack Faragher.

David Crockett: The Lion of the West by Michael Wallis.

The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill by William Manchester. This is the first book in a trilogy (sub-titled Visions of Glory 1874 - 1932) Manchester wrote about one of the towering figures of the 20th century. Sadly, Manchester suffered a stroke while the last book in the the trilogy was underway. Before his death at 82 on June 1 2004 he chose a man named Paul Reid to complete the book.

Patton: A Genius for War by Carlo D' Este. A comprehensive biography of a complex and fascinating man.

Unless a lot more time opens up for reading, the books I've posted to this thread should see me through the year.

Selected Short Stories - Jack London

I keep on hearing how awesome "To Build a Fire" is. I'm also testing the waters before I plunge into "White Fang". Plus, it's a free ebook.

The Elegant Universe - Brian Greene

Finally, someone can explain quantum physics to me without getting too technical.

Dinosaurs - a Scientific America compendium

A collection of essays and papers written by some of the world's leading paleontologists.

I've been watching Game of Thrones recently, and I've been wanting to read the A Song of Ice and Fire series because of it. I figured if Game of Thrones is good enough to be on HBO, the books must be outstanding.

Shell Shocked by Howard Kaylan. A page-turner about his life with The Turtles and Frank Zappa's band, even if he leans a little heavily on the groupie aspect of his life!

Currently I am reading a book called:

A Steampunk's Guide To Sex.

I have 10 books on order from the book store. Next on my reading list when I am done with this one is Steampunk: H.G. Wells. A simple republication of his original works with added steampunkish illustrations.
