When someone says "hey, that tickles" without laughing

I realize the answer I get from TMF'ers may be different from the answer I get from the uninitiated, but I'm going to go ahead and ask anyway. If you've ever said "hey, that tickles" but you weren't laughing, were you trying not to laugh, did it not tickle enough to make you laugh, did it not yet tickle enough to make you laugh but if they continued it would? I guess what I have in mind is the "stop that, it tickles" response, as opposed to the encouraging "hey that tickles, keep going" response that is probably more common among members here. Just something I've been curious about, thanks.

Involuntary twitching without laughter can be the legitimate reaction to tickling. (By legitimate, I mean honest reaction without faking anything.) So it can happen that somebody says, "Hey that tickles," and means it even though they didn't laugh at all.

Not every tickle elicits laughter, and some stuff really doesn't tickle. Some things tickle enough to acknowledge "Hey, that tickles" and hopefully it leads to more ticklish tickling 🙂

Sometimes that happens if you didn't tickle for more than a second or two; for some people it takes a little more than that to make them laugh. But as Mils said, sometimes that is a totally genuine reaction to it.

Haha okay. I have always had serious trouble saying the word... I do everything in my power to avoid saying it. So if I ever did muster the courage to say "That tickles!" it meant I was VERY much trying to get them to keep going because they didn't do it long enough. =P

I don't think I've ever said "That tickles" without laughing. Protestations like "Don't, that tickles" or "I'm actually really ticklish" either burble out on the hiccuping surface of a stream of forced giggles or rush out as a Hail Mary following the withdrawal of fluttering fingers after an initial, exploratory tickle-attack, usually quickly followed (or interrupted) by a more confident and resolute resumption of tickling activity, my pleas only having confirmed what she'd hoped and wanted to know...

I avoid saying the word too 🙂 But if i ever show that i'm ticklish, my heart is beating like crazy at the thought of it. I don't like other to understand how ticklish i am because they may keep tickling me to the point of having me begging and screaming, and this is one of my worst fears..In other words, i'm to selfish to beg, but to ticklish to avoid it when i get tickled 🙂
