Rather.,. Benign question that I know will be an opinion one.
Which is a better type of series, say, for a playoff, Finals, or World Series.
The 2-3-2 format of the World Series.
or..
The 2-2-1-1-1 format, of the NHL Finals, and now, the NBA Finals?
I've heard differing opinions on this.
Some baseball players, during the League Championship, and World Series, have stated they dislike being "stuck" in a city, for three straight days during the playoffs or World Series, if they are the road team.
While I dont follow hockey.
For thirty years, until 2014 or 2015..
The NBA followed the same format as baseball does for the World Series.. with the NBA Finals. of 2-3-2.
The last couple of years, it has been changed.. to the style that hockey does., of
2-2-1-1-1.
I personally think that the 2-2-1-1-1 type of series is more difficult.
The past two years NBA Finals between Cleveland and Golden State is a perfect example.
Last year, Golden State won the Finals in six games, and closed out the series in Cleveland.
This year, so far, the NBA Finals is three games to two Golden State, with the teams headed back to Cleveland to play
Game Six on Thursday night.
If Cleveland wins, Thursday, the teams then have to fly back to Golden State. (San Fran/Oakland really) to play Game Seven on Sunday.
Three almost cross country trips in less than a week's time.
While the 2-2-1-1-1 series, might seem more "fair" to the team with the higher seed, in that they get what could be a pivotal Game Five on their home floor, I personally think the 2-3-2 format is easier on teams due to the travel aspect.
Thoughts on this?
