Rather.,. Benign question that I know will be an opinion one.

Which is a better type of series, say, for a playoff, Finals, or World Series.

The 2-3-2 format of the World Series.

or..

The 2-2-1-1-1 format, of the NHL Finals, and now, the NBA Finals?

I've heard differing opinions on this.

Some baseball players, during the League Championship, and World Series, have stated they dislike being "stuck" in a city, for three straight days during the playoffs or World Series, if they are the road team.

While I dont follow hockey.

For thirty years, until 2014 or 2015..

The NBA followed the same format as baseball does for the World Series.. with the NBA Finals. of 2-3-2.

The last couple of years, it has been changed.. to the style that hockey does., of

2-2-1-1-1.

I personally think that the 2-2-1-1-1 type of series is more difficult.

The past two years NBA Finals between Cleveland and Golden State is a perfect example.

Last year, Golden State won the Finals in six games, and closed out the series in Cleveland.

This year, so far, the NBA Finals is three games to two Golden State, with the teams headed back to Cleveland to play
Game Six on Thursday night.

If Cleveland wins, Thursday, the teams then have to fly back to Golden State. (San Fran/Oakland really) to play Game Seven on Sunday.

Three almost cross country trips in less than a week's time.

While the 2-2-1-1-1 series, might seem more "fair" to the team with the higher seed, in that they get what could be a pivotal Game Five on their home floor, I personally think the 2-3-2 format is easier on teams due to the travel aspect.

Thoughts on this?

I kind of like the 2-2-1-1-1 because it seems more fair. What annoys me is the time they take for travel, each game was like 3 days apart and was kind of irritating.

I see your point about the time between games being irritating, but I do agree that the 2-2-1-1-1 is more fair.

Here's a really hare-brained scheme: For each year, pick a city for the World Series, kinda like with the Superbowl. Then, the two teams play in that city for how ever many games. Yeh, takes away from each team's home crowd. But then neither team has to worry about the downfalls of travel. And, yeh, this idea would never fly anywho.

rdhd, I dont ever see that happening.

Football is the only major sport where the championship game (s) isnt/arent played in the team's home city.

I remember during the 1995 World Series, when my Braves played the Indians, Games Three through Five were in Cieveland, and all the games were played at night, with temps in the 30s. Such is the pitfall of having a team which plays in a city with cold weather, make it to the World Series.
