Most of us remember those great clips with Sasami from Tenchi Muyo! getting the soft end of the stick in the oft-downloaded "Pretty Sammy" clips. The only thing...some of us, while we know of Tenchi Muyo, don't know what the hell Pretty Sammy is!

Is it an actual NAME of a series? Is it a nickname given to her in one of the episodes? A variety of salamander or other reptile? Curious minds would like to know.

The clips in question are:

- Sasami entering the elevator to a compound of some mastermind whose "cybernet" is falling apart and gets tied up and tickled by some unfriendly cables activated by a faux-French villainess named Lisa.

- Sasami trapped in a glass case while some henchwoman named "Third" wedges a hand-on-a-stick device through the glass and into her armpit.

(there might be one or two others that I'm missing, but those are the big ones I remember)

So for those anime-fiends out there who know where these clips originated from or who may, in fact, have seen the actual series, please tell us:

- What is Pretty Sammy?
- What episodes are these clips from?

and the bonus question?

- What happened before/after the clip begins/ends?

Input is greatly appreciated.😀

Ooo, finally I have my chance to shine! Tenchi Muyo was the second anime I ever really saw, and I learned as much as possible about it. I think I know a bit too much, actually..

Anyway! Pretty Sammy was originally introduced in Mihoshi's Galaxy Police Special in the Ryo-Ohki OAVs (the best series, in my opinion). She was just a one-off Magical Girl character in that story, a spoof of Sailor Moon -- but her popularity amoung the fans lead to her getting her own short OAV series, entitled "Magical Girl Pretty Sammy", or sometimes "Pretty Sammy the Magical Girl".

The OAV was only 3 episodes long. I usually refer to these things as being in an alternate reality, as there's no link between Pretty Sammy and Tenchi Muyo, except the characters looks/most of their personalities. The first episode introduces us to Sasami Kawaii, a 10 year old average girl (cept for the blue hair and pink eyes, but this is anime), who lives with her Mother and her brother, Tenchi Kawaii. Sasami's best friend is a sickly girl named Misao Amano (who's also featured in a new anime about hackers, if memory serves).

Other characters are in it too, playing their different roles. Ryoko and Ayeka are schoolmates of Tenchi, constantly fighting over his attention. Mihoshi and Kiyone work for Sasami's Mother, who owns a music shop if I remember right.

Meanwhile, in a different magical world called Juraihelm, two women are competing for the possition of Queen. One is Tsunami, who a lot of people will remember from Tenchi Muyo. The other is Ramia, someone who will do whatever it takes to become Queen. In the end, Tsunami is chosen as first runner, but must first complete a task to become Queen. This task, for some reason, involves chosing a representative on Earth, and giving them special powers.

Back on Earth, while delivering something from her Mom's shop, Sasami meets Tsunami. Tsunami gives her Ryo-ohki, a talking cabbit (who's male in this series), as well as a magical baton that lets her transform into Pretty Sammy (who's costume is a hand-me-down from Tsunami, explaining why it's so baggy on Sasami).

Meanwhile, Ramia is in a rage. She sends her little brother Rumiya to Earth in the form of a bird to find her own champion. Rumiya finds Misao, and transforms her into the Magical Girl Pixy Misa. In this state, Misao doesn't remember who she really is, and is quite the bad girl, for some reason having a French Accent in the dub.

Well, that's it for the basic plot! Misa causes trouble for Sammy, and using the powers of love and beauty, Sammy manages to save the day and win more points for Tsunami. A very cheesy anime, but really funny.

Episode 2 makes fun of Bill Gates (using a character called 'Biff Standard', who wants to control the world and make everyone and their computers exactly the same) and contains the tickling scene just about everyone's heard of -- although since Sasami's only 10 in this series, I suppose it'd be against the rules to post anything related to it. Still, I can answer your question about what was going on. Biff had completed part of his master plan, which created a giant robot with a tractor beam to pull the moon into Earth. He wanted to destroy Earth, and re-build it the way he wanted, so everyone would be 'standardized'. Sammy gets caught in Misa's lift trap, but then Rumiya, not wanting Misao to be hurt by Biff's plan, changes her back to normal so she can help Sammy. Sammy gets into the control room with Biff and smashes his robot to bits, then uses her special magical finishing move (very Sailor Moon like) to purge the evil from Biff. Or something like that.

There is also a longer TV series of Pretty Sammy now, I think. I'm sure there's another scene in that, but I haven't seen it yet. Anyway, I hope all this was helpful, and not just long and boring. ^^x

It felt good to let all that knowledge be put to good use, didn't it Battousai?

I feel the same way when I get to explain, in detail, Neon Genesis Evangelion or some other anime I know everything about. ^__^

Battousai, you RULE! THAT's the kind of information I'm talkin' about! Thanky!

Now, there's only one or two more things to get out of the way:

- Sasami trapped in a glass case while some henchwoman named "Third" wedges a hand-on-a-stick device through the glass and into her armpit.

This is the second clip I'm still looking for information on.

Basically, I'm looking to see if I can snag the actual episodes, or at least know what happens in them. Now, Battousai got the first one, now information on this second one is the one I need.

Again, anyone can answer the following questions:

1. What episodes are these two clips in?
2. What happens before and after the second clip? (in the show)
3. Are there any more of these clips out there in this series?
4. Can these episodes be gotten in the USA?

Again, any help you can give would be Danke Shone

3. As far as I know, there are only 2 clips like this -- one in the OAV (ep 2) and one in the TV series.

4. I live in New Zealand, and previously England, but I'm pretty sure Rightstuf carries both series' so they should be availible to you.

Ah, I just remembered! The TV series is called Magical Project S, rather than just Pretty Sammy. Here they are on DVD, subbed:

Magical Project S DVD 1

Magical Project S DVD 2

Oh, and the OAVs seem to be availible on DVD with the original Mihoshi Galaxy Police Special, now.

Magical Girl Pretty Sammy/Galaxy Police Special

A tip-

Don't buy from the Right Stuf International unless you have to.

Their prices are so inflated its not funny. Every dvd costs like $29.99, and they have lousy service. Its alot like SunCoast, don't buy your anime from there either.

I'd personally recommend Robert's Anime Corner Store. Their dvds are like $17.99 or lower most of the time, they have more deals, sales, etc., better selection and far better service.

I would look in Ebay. The prices are rock bottom since most stores are very small companies. However, more then likely they won't have any extra's on the DVD's, but if you can live without those, you can get great deals. I got excel Saga for like ten dollars, and that was the complete set with english and japanese sub and dub. No extra's but still a great price.

But was it brand new? I know alot of people don't care about that, but sometimes what you see is not what you get with Ebay. They aren't experts, so alot of the time they carry knocked-off or pirated versions of an anime and don't even know it. It could very well be that alot of folks that have purchased anime from Ebay have been screwed in some way, and they might not even know it.

Ebay is too risky. You don't know what you're getting. I'd rather go with a company I know and trust, and with excellent prices to boot! The Corner Store anime selection IS affordable, and provided you know how to save money, you could own any anime you see there just by saving up. And these are animes with all the extra goodies, often in collector's boxsets, and in hybrid format (english japanese, or even more languages than that.)

these are generally sold by legitamit companies, but they're just very small. If you look for the people with high levels of good reviews, they're generally safe. SO far i've purchased two series, Excel Saga, and the series with the girl getting tickled by the feather fans, Yumi and the travelers of books, and they've both been in execelent conditions. I have no doubt there originals. If you want the extra's, and i agree there sometimes deffinitly worth it, then go to the sellers that offer them. However, if you just want the show on DVD for less then a fraction of what you might normally pay, then go to E-bay. It's bare bones, but you'll find series you can't find over here, and if you want to evalute a series before you shell out the big bucks, spend like 10 and get the series by itself. Then, if you like the series, and want the extras, byt the series with the add ons.

Thats a waste of time and money though, buying things twice.

Generally speaking, what you say is true and I agree. But just realize that alot of the time E-Bay is a third party in all of this, and they themselves don't often know what they are auctioning off.

You basically have to put blind faith into the person selling, that they are being honest about the review, the condition of the item(s), etc, and that nothing is missing or damaged.

I don't know if I'd want to take that chance, especially when I'm looking to own the series, in it's entirety, which is always the case with me. Almost all of the animes I have seen I own on DVD, and I'll admit, some of them were blind purchases, but I knew the store I was buying from was obviously on the level and legitimate, and they were of course brand new, straight from the factor, so I don't have to worry about the condition of the package and the discs.

Also, I just have a gift for picking out good anime at random. I call it my 6th sense. Of all the series I have purchased, all at once in all cases (as all of them were available in a boxset or bundle pack) I can honestly say I haven't been disappointed with a single one of them. 🙂

IF you are going to consider E-Bay, I'd research the series first and see if its worth the purchase, no matter how cheap or expensive it may be running for.

I wouldn't trust a complete stranger to be completely honest about what they are selling me, especially if its used. If its used they could make up all sorts of excuses. And its not uncommon that a dvd will be defective, but otherwise seem ok. Also, they may make the series seem more desirable than it really is. While any business can do this, someone looking to make some money to get rid of something may exagerate even more so.

Thats why looking at the series, plot, characters, etc, is more than worth the time. That way, if you do it your way, you'll know if these people are BSing you or not.

Well, your tight that it is a waist of money to buy things twice Celtic, but i'd rather spend 10 dollars and see if i like a series, then spend 100 and find out i don't. I agree that you should do research on a series, but i've found that, no matter how uch research you do, it's not the same as simply watching a video for yourself. I remember when i asked a comic book owner if a partiuler video was part of a series. He said yes. So i bought the video, took it home, and watched it. Well, sure enough, it wasn't. Well, i called the guy up and told him, but because i had alreadyb opened it up, i couldn't bring it back or gt a refund. I was pissed, to say the least. After that, i started doing research into some of the videos i own now. SOme are good, but a few i really wish i hadn't bought. I just don't enjoy them that much. However, with buying a series cheap on e-bay (look for the people with several hundred positive responces and 0 negative response and your almost agrrenteed to get high quality goods) i am able to find out if its worth my time and moeny. Worse comes t worse, you can re-sell the series on e-nbay and make most of your money back if or when you don't want it anymore.

Even if by some very odd chance you do get screwwed (which is unlikely since these companies only have there reputation to sell there merchandise) your only out a couple McDonal meals. Also, it's good for getting series that haven't came out here yet. Has anybody seen "Berserk"? Arguably one of my favourite all time animes. If you haven't seen it, look it up and get it. Well, Darkhorse has about 2, i think there working on the third, grphic novals which continue the anime series. On e-bay i managed to get books 1-26 (which'll take about 5 or more years for Darkhorse to get out at the rate there going) on 3 CD's. Very good purchase that.

Celtic is right though about looking up what yoyur buying though. Fortionatly, because of the cheep prices on e-bay, now you can buy them for rock bottom prices as well, assuming you don't want the extra's. By the way, Celtic, could you post a link to the store? I admit you've perked my curiousity about it.

Sure thing. 🙂

http://www.animecornerstore.com

I swear by this company. I've been doing business with them for several years now and they haven't let me down. They don't just sell anime, but also anime merchandize, manga, statues, etc, as well as imported items straight from Japan.

The prices, deals, and customer service are second to none in my experiences with other companies. I've even talked to Robert himself, the owner of the company, and he is a good, honest man, and runs a good store. He's always on top of things, and he makes sure his company gets the newest releases right on time.

Also, a tip from me to you all-

Buy box sets when you can, don't buy each volume individually. Its actually MORE expensive when you buy it that way. Not only is it cost effective, but you usually get a nice, fancy boxset too.

Now, this may mean you'll have to wait for a series to be fully released before you can even get the complete series in the boxset. However, the prices may go down by then, or it may be offered to you as part of some limited time deal. So waiting isn't always a bad thing.

Robert's Anime Corner Store is actually pretty popular. I'm surprized more people haven't heard of it. They have ads in anime magazines and such.

I think i've seen this site before Celtic. Ask him sometime if he ever sells his wears on e-bay.

Why don't you e-mail him yourself? If he responded to me, theres no reason for him not to respond to you.

I was impressed by the fact that he took the time to answer my questions personally, rather than handing it over to a customer representative.

I'm pretty sure that if you address it to him, he himself will answer.

All is good here.

How about a link to the actuall clip? just to top it off. I'm sure SOMEONE has it? Right?

I'm not sure if it's okay by the rules to do so. Sasami's a bit...young, after all.

I was just careless enough not to download it.:sowrong:
