One of my favorite radio stations can be found on the internet now. They play Smooth Jazz 24/7, with only two commercial breaks per hour.

This music always reminds me of the good times, when I was jetting around the world and lingering at the bar of deluxe hotels on a lavish expense account, sipping a Single Malt... 😛 Extremely cool and relaxing, at least for me!

Subsequently, the station is called "Radio Deluxe". The website is in German, just click on the "Livestream" button to listen to the music. Here's the link: http://www.radiodeluxe.de/

Anyone interested? Red, old Jazz chap? 🙂

I like jazz....just not smooth, I prefer warts, bumps, and tinny sound. Give me Charlie Parker at the Royal Roost or Miles Davis at the Blackhawk. I imagine a small, cigarette smoke-filled, club at 3 in the morning.

I'd like to hear Red's response to this, as well.

I agree with Drew on this one. i love Jazz, just not the "smooth" variety. ANd yes, those Miles Davis at the Blackhawk sets are incredible. Hank Mobley is kind of an over-looked sax player. He doesn't get any credit because he didn't do anything "new" like Charlie parker or John Coltrane. All he did was play terrific music night after night. He's actually one of my favorites.

Blimey!!!!!........

....whats this? a thread about jazz? started by an American? and joined by two others? to start a discussion??
My work is done here at last!

To answer the question, I am never quite sure what "smooth jazz" means, its bound to mean different things to different people. One persons" cool laid back chill out track" is another persons "bland, over fussy, jazz noodling, wall paper". I am a big Jeff Lorber fan and have transcribed and performed many of his tracks, but, on the other hand I would rather drink a pint of my own vomit than listen to Kenny G. So its each to his own i suppose.

Recommended listening, "Water Sign" and "Wizard Island".

Started by an American ??? :wow:

I admit freely that I don't know anything about Jazz. About 20 years ago, I witnessed an Oscar Peterson performance at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, and I became instantly fascinated. After that, I went to a bar in San Francisco with Jam Sessions quite frequently. Recently, I developed a crush for Candy Dulphor (sp?) and her sax, probably not your taste... 😉

Oh Blimey!!!.......

.....sorry Halty boy!!! what an insult!! my apologies, fancy mixing you up with my septic pals.

You can consider me clean bowled with a reverse swing seamer, taking out all three poles, and on my way back to the pavillion for a duck!

I love all kids of music but give me Diana Krall and Tony Bennitt any day. I saw Diana Krall in concert two years ago and she floored me. Her great hits like....the night we called it a day, cry me a river, and I can drink a case of you. Just to name a few. I highly recommend her live from Paris CD.
