why doesn't the body build up an immunity to tickling?

I once dated a girl who said she had been very ticklish as a kid, but was tickled a whole lot, so had trained herself to not be ticklish. She wasn't kidding either, damn it all to hell! I'd have to surprise her to get a reaction, and even then, it was limited.

I think that people can build an immunity to it in the same way that people can build a resistance to certain types of pain. Most, I expect, aren't tickled enough to really feel the need to exert the energy necessary, so they don't.

It's almost a given that I'm wrong on this, but there's my two cents.

There's a tolerance level that happens if you tickle someone for too long. Then they just need a few hours or so to come back down.

I notice that when it is very warm outside and I am very relaxed I have a higher tolerance for being tickled. In fact I can laugh at the person doing it and tell them they have no effect on me at all. hahaha While other times I can't stand the cruelty and start to cry. Weird huh? My nipples are extremely ticklish always.

I have a few friends that used to be ticklish and now arnt, I however went down and back up 😀

I was ticklish as a kid, then it wore off to a degree, over recent years ive gotten more and more ticklish tho, I think I just willed it upon myself and broke down any barriers that I may had built up previously.
