i have asked this question of several of my friends, so i thought i would ask you all. what makes bruce the boss? who first called him that? i for one do not like his style. he sounds like he is straining when he sings. i am not a fan of his as you might be able to tell. but those of you who do like him what makes the media or whoever pinned that name on him call him that? i have never been impressed with his music. and i listen to a great variety of music. but thats my opinion, i am in no way putting down others who might like him. i just cant see the big deal with him being called the boss.

He was popular in the DC area in the mid seventies, long before he achieved nationwide notice, which I don't think happened until the eighties. I liked his first four albums. After that, it was all the processed, homogenized, commercial clap-trap. Around 1981, I saw him in concert from a sky suite of the Capital Centre Arena in Largo, MD. It was a good show. Strong emphasis on R&B.

I never heard him referred to as the Boss until he started hitting nationwide popularity, around 84 or so. Maybe Courtney Cox gave him that name. :blaugh:

Yeah, what he said with emphasis on the first part.

Maybe Bruce was a Diana Ross fan. Diana recorded an album and song called "The Boss" long before Bruce was called The Boss. Could SHE have inspired Springy?

Perhaps his wife gave him the name, because of the size of his salami. :wiseowl:

Not even Google gives a clue where the name 'Boss' came from.
One of his agents/handlers probably made it up.
