Why is it that there are always certain people who feel compelled...

to join a conversation when they obviously know NOTHING on the topic being discussed. It happened the other day when I was at a friends house for a small dinner party. A couple of my friends there were talking about the upcoming NFL season. This guy we didn`t know joined the conversation and preceded to give his uneducated opinion and then got upset when someone knew he was full of it and called him on it. Eventually the gut admitted that he didn`t even watch pro football! Why do people do things like that for?

I have also noticed some people here who do the very same thing. They make a post to almost every thread
eventhough they have no ''substance'' to add to the topic being discussed. And they certainly have no facts to back up there point of view.

I think it is great that people here have a chance to give there opinions on this forum. And there are ''tons'' of post that are for fun and are supposed to be silly. It is not these threads in which I am talking about

It seems to me some people just like to hear the sound of there own voice. I would like to get other people`s opinion on this subject

in my professional opinion (LMAO)..... That's just it! either they THINK they know or they are aware that they have no idea but still want to talk!

Thanks Tulipangel

I can always count on you to give your honest opinion; I appreciate that !!!

hmmm, sounds to me like these people are insecure and have to be in on everything even if they have no idea!

Thanks Brat, uh... Trixie....no wait; I mean Maria.....My little Cowboys fan!!! 🙂

Ah Flock I think is OK, everybody can have an opinion, even if they do not nothing, sometimes those who know nothing about a topic have more common sense than the experts, who often forgot to think and just repeat.

Of course they risk to be caught, and trapped like a snake inside a box desperate fo a hole out, meantime you enjoy their predicament. There is something sadistic in doing that, but it could be so enjoyable.

hmmmm, flocky I think you may fall under the category of which you are asking about....people talking about something they know nothing about :jester:

If I may add my 2 cents... Many people are just so desperate to belong, so in need of human contact, that they will insinuate themselves into any discussion, regardless of any knowledge of the topic. I've seen it time and again in bars, at clubs, at sporting events, etc... Most are harmless, they are just trying to belong. Be in with the in crowd, as it were... Try not to judge them too harshly, unless they are obnoxious jerks about it. Then it's open season.

Hope that didn't sound too preachy...

Not sure what you all are talking about here, but if you want MY opinion.................

well i really dont know much so lets see what kind of crap comes out of me, but seeing as how we are on a forum where we basically are asking people to give some kind of opinion, thats fine. but what pisses me off is when someone posts something in fun or as a casual conversation between friends and someone else has to post and totally tear down the other persons thought, just to be a dick. those are the jackasses that piss me off.

Sorry if you took this the wrong way.I was not trying to be flipant or any thing, just agreeing with flock.I thought is was a way to illustrate his point.

I know folks like that as well.
One fella up here is one of those know-it-all's-who-doesn't. No matter what the subject, he has to chime in. If he is mistaken and someone calls him on it, he will defend his opinion to the death. What this does, is keeps him uninformed and makes him look even more ignorant than he is. He's a man who will not learn and refuses to be taught and will continue to make an ass of himself. As a result... he and his wife (she is the same way) aren't included in a lot of invitations extended to others. No one wants to listen to him spewing out his antiquated information. Maybe if he'd watch the news once in a while or pick up a paper or read a book, he'd be better company, but at the moment no one wants him around.

I agree with nytoetapper: "Many people are just so desperate to belong, so in need of human contact, that they will insinuate themselves into any discussion, regardless of any knowledge of the topic."

And... some folks just wanna sound smarter than they are.

In my life's experiences, I have had many jobs, learned many trades and have varied hobbies. It seems that although I do not know a lot about any one thing, I know a little bit about a lot of things... enough to join in anyway, but I am always willing to learn more and when corrected, appreciate the correction as I do not wish to remain ignorant... and as an information junkie... I relish the knowledge.

It's cool that everyone has their own opinions... but they should reserve those for the subjects they know something about and keep their mouths shut and listen or ask questions and learn when they don't.

Sometimes I but in on other peoples' conversations but I don't add anything unless I think it's a valid point.

I like to talk and I am always afraid I'm going to miss something exciting, so maybe that's why I jump into conversations, but I never give my opinion on something unless I think it makes sense.

Maybe one of the reasons people do that is because they want to be liked, they want to be part of the group, they want people to like them, so in their desperation to try to be a people person, they decide bullshitting is a good idea.

Although, it might just be that they like to look superior in front of others so they pretend to know everything even when they don't.

naw dude, i wasnt talking bout you, my bad if i came off as a dick, i have my moments, just need to vent sometimes.

Hey we all need to vent sometimes,i here ya.No prob.

Thanks to everyone who has answered this thread.Seems like we all have run into people like this before.

I think what often happens is that one can experience difficulty discerning opinion from fact. They state their opinion so strongly, precluding as much opposition as they can, that it comes across as irrefutable. I try my best to always differentiate between fact and opinion, no matter how strongly I feel about something.

Then there is the disturbingly prevelant attitude that if you're not a certified expert with a degree on the particular subject in question, then you have no business sharing an opinion at all. Instead of sticking to the points of discussion, the conversation seems to degrade to issues of credentials.

Another disturbingly present attitude is one that seems to infer that the average person in America, or the world in general, is a total dumb-ass, usually expressed in such a way as to exclude themselves from the masses of the average. Those making such inferences do so seemingly oblivious to the self-aggrandizement inherent in making such arrogant generalizations. Without realizing it, they are basically saying "I'm so glad I'm way smarter than almost everybody." Or even worse, maybe they do realize it, and sincerely believe it.

Bernie Siegel once said that people are addicted to their beliefs, because when you try to change someone's beliefs they behave like an addict. I don't know about all that, but I know that for me there are few types of people in the world more annoying than people who can't just "agree to disagree." They're right, you're wrong, and they won't STFU until they get you to see things their way, or until you cuss them out whichever comes first 😡

I think you just explained how people enter the field of "talk" radio. They tend to know very little about anything, but they have a vastly inflated ego and a desperate need to express their opinions to the public.

I usually just skip past posts like this. I prefer substance.

People are insecure and want to belong or fit in with something so they tend to join in on something to be someone and will do anything to think or feel they have friends or that their opinion has some value since someone is listening. As for posting, i like makin an arse of myself and tryin to add some humor to anything(see: http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=82973)
