Why isn't BigJim a moderator?

G'day all.😀

I was wondering after reading this...

kind of moderation, which is my kind. Now it's no secret that I've wanted to be a moderator on the TMF for quite a long time, because I enjoy community service and I feel very protective of this community in particular. Sadly (for me anyway) we'll never get to see my kind of moderation round here, because I'm too undiplomatic. If I was a moderator, all of your posts would suddenly be written in pink font and your Forum signature would suddenly sprout a few sig. gifs. downloaded from www.nobscan.com .

...In another unrelated thread which was written by Jim himself, why he isn't a mod? O.k the above quote could be a reason but I'm 98% sure he was joking. 😛

B.J and I never really talk but he's been in the Tickling Community since long before me and all I've seen is a really cool guy. Personally, and might be just me but I'm sure it isn't, I think BigJim would make a great moderator. 🙂

C'mon folks whadda reckon? BigJim for mod! BigJim for mod!😀

Rah! Rah! Rah!

He Doesn't..

Meet the qualifications because he has common sense, good judgement, and he doesn't spend every waking hour here.

I think he'd be a damn decent mod myself.

Here, here.

Big, Smelly Jim for pres...er, Mod!!

Cheers.😀

Well bugger me with a fishfork! 😱 😱 :wow: :yowzer: :wowzer:

Yes Mantis, I was joking when I said that. It was said with more than a ton of tongue in cheek, but I think it's an exagerated answer. Mods are generally a lot more passive, diplomatic and patient than I am. I think also that some fomer mods would disagree with Tron's view of my not spending every waking moment here. Korrektes Hal, mein freund? 😉

We never talk dude? Anything you wanna talk about besides English slang and conspiracy theories? 😀

You know this is a nice light-hearted party, but before long Myr or Q is gonna drop in and list all the reasons why I'm not suitable for mod service. :cry1: That's when the party will break up and I'll slope off home feeling all unwanted and sad. *sniff*

WHAP!! :wow:

Snap out of it, ya Joey.

Hmmm...

Be careful what you wish for, as the old saying goes.

Btw, I believe you can see BJims moderating style in action on another TK site, if I'm not mistaken. Last time I was at TTB I believe I noticed him among the head honchos..😉 Q

According to that definition, I should be a mod.

Careful? lol Now Q, don't go getting my hopes up! :manicd:

My style alright Q, but it's rarely if ever in action. Things tend to be quite slow there compared to here and the whole tone of the place is different. Makes for precious little moderating to do. Of course you never know when the floor will need sweeping, so MP keeps me handy.........

Mantis, I've just noticed something. You actually registered as a TMF member the month BEFORE I did. You registered with the Forum in May 2001, I didn't officially join until June.

Of course I was using the chat room for 18 months before I registered on the Forum, so maybe that counts for a bit.

Personally... I don't know why anyone would want to be a forum mod. They have a difficult and often thankless job with little but complaints. They actually have to DEAL with game playing and general nastiness that goes on rather than being able to roll their eyes and walk away from it. I don't envy the mods their tasks.

Deja Vu

This looks familiar for some reason.

If the TMF is actually looking for another moderator, they could do alot worse than Big Jim.

LMAO!!! Remember those chats we used to have about a year ago Shark? Remember all the brown envelopes? 😉 Still fancy the job of campaign manager? 😀 Of course I started that original campaign myself, when I was bored one night. This thread was all Mantis idea. (It WAS, honest! 😀)

Well I know the Forum lost the services of 4Pawz as a Moderator, but I havn't heard anything on the grapevine about them needing any more. The last couple of times he's appointed some, Myr added them in pairs (Dave2112 and Mimi about 6 months ago and Pawz and someone else about 2 months ago) so even in the highly unlikely event of me being asked (looking out of window at flying pigs) I don't think it would be for a while.

True Ann, but you could say all those points about being a police officer too.

Originally posted by HalticklingAs a retired mod, I can only agree with Ann here.

Kudos to ya Hal. Even when you disagreed with someone, you were fair about it. You didn't throw your mod-weight around like a certain other retired (or should I say fired?) mod I could mention. It was a genuine shame you had to give it up because of personal reasons.

Sie gehalten der frieden richtig, alter mann. 😛

A mod's work is clearly no fun. They deal with complaining, whining, whimpering, sniveling, sobbing, blubbering, mewling, slobbering, and ...well, you get the picture. Then there are the blurry lines that define what is or isn't a violation, plus the hotbuttons (topics that aren't violations themselves but are controversial enough to spark flames). To be a good mod requires the ability to be completely objective, and not given to emotional posturing. Therefore anybody who says they want to be a mod would naturally raise great suspicion. They either don't have a clue as to what the job entails, or they get off on control and power; neither of course being ideal attributes for mod candidates.

So the ideal mod would be someone who doesn't want to be one?

Well my reasons were because I appreciate just how valuable this community is to us all and I feel protective towards it. It's the same reasons that I chose my career. It was actually during the "reign of discontent" caused by a certain mutual aquaintance of ours, that I realised just how much I wanted to be one.
My penchant for heated discussion aside (because that's probably the main thing to stop me getting asked) does that make me an unsuitable candidate?

Absolutely. But, only to a point. If you have to hold a gun to somebody's head to take the job, they probably won't do it to the best of their ability. But somebody who wants to do it as bad as you want it...I gotta tell you, I would question such zeal seriously. No offense.

Jim, this statement raises a couple of questions. You obviously view the TMF as a very vulnerable, perhaps even volatile environment...on the brink of ruin unless you can jump in and save the day. Just what would you protect us from??

"reign of discontent" you call it. I call it "the good old days." It was most cool seeing him in action again recently. Really took me back. But I digress. So your saying his shenannigans make you wish you had the power to zap him out of the chatroom? That just means you're vindictive. Yet another unsuitable attribute.

My penchant for heated discussion aside (because that's probably the main thing to stop me getting asked) does that make me an unsuitable candidate?

I'm sorry to say that yes it does, unequivocably. But take heart, Jim. I've seen equally unsuitable candidates make it to the mod staff. You'll probably get asked eventually. My advice to you is to say, "Hey, you guys are doing a great job! If you need any help, I'm here."

I have a reason for wanting to be a mod and it has nothing to do with having power trips, ego, or anything like that.
