Why It Would Be Nice To See The Magic Win The Title

Unless Phoenix upsets the Lakers, (Unlikely, I think) or Boston upsets the Magic, (Could happen, but I dont think so) it would seem that the likely 2010 NBA Finals opponents are going to be the same as last year, L.A. vs Orlando. This time, I think it would be cool if Orlando won, and not just because of the fact of getting revenge, because the Lakers beat them last year, but also because it would finally bring a championship ring to a pretty good guy who couldnt seem to win one as a player, a guy named Patrick Ewing, who is now an assistant coach to Stan Van Gundy on the Magic.

People who have been basketball fans for more than 20 years probably remember him. He's about seven feet tall, used to score about 20 points and grab 10 rebounds a night. Played for the New York Knicks in the 1980s and 1990s back when their team was still good. He had exactly one real chance to win a title. (In 1994, the year Michael Jordan had his first retirement from the NBA), and the Knicks, a pretty good team in those years, couldn't do it, as they fell to the Houston Rockets in seven games.

All of the other years, it seemed that Michael Jordan stood in Ewing's way of a title. The Jordan led Bulls beat Ewing's Knicks time, and time, and time again, in the late 80s and into the late 1990s in the NBA playoffs. Michael accumulated six rings, while Ewing had nary a one.

Phil Jackson already has ten championships, and Kobe Bryant has four. The Celtics and Doc Rivers won the title two years ago. I really hope Orlando does it this time. It would be nice to see Orlando win their first title, and very nice for Ewing to finally get a championship ring, even if it is as an assistant head coach.

I too would love to see Orlando make it (since I live here) but what the heck happened to them against Boston. I just don't understand it. It's like they are playing another sport. I just don't know if they can do 4 in a row. But they did 8 in a row before so I haven't given up on them yet. If they come to play then can do it. It would be just amazing!!

You just wouldn't believe all the GO Magic signs that are everywhere here in Orlando. Flags, car signs, building flags. It's just amazing all the support. I wish they could just do it for the fans. It would make the new arena all that more valuable and they would fill it next year.

Boston has the Magic in a tough position, Summer, but as we know, its never over til its over. Teams have rallied from 3-0 deficits in playoff series before.

That's great that people are supporting the Magic in the fashion they are. In some cities, the fans don't even show up.

There's no question that this series is over. The Magic have given us no reason to think they could win one game if it was a best-of-eleven series that was played only in Orlando.

My rebuttal for why is WOULDN'T be nice for the Magic to win the title and why they shouldn't is simple:

Vince Carter.

Well, aint gonna be seeing the magic win a title this year.

No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series. The Denver Nuggets forced a game 7 in the 1994 NBA Playoffs vs. the Utah Jazz in the western conference semi-finals after being down 3-0, but did not go on to win the series.

^I've said it once and I'll say it again:

Boston fans should not be counting eggs right now after what happened to the B's. Dare I mention the 2004 ALCS?

The Bruins really weren't that good to begin with and were barely coming out on top in most of their playoff wins. The Flyers were just the better team and finally decided to show up when it mattered the most. Bruins lost like 10 straight or something in the regular season so the potential to lose 4 in a row was not out of the question.

As for the 2004 ALCS, baseball is not like basketball at all. Basketball is more physical and adrenaline based than baseball. Momentum in basketball is what teams thrive off of, so I just can't see the Celtics losing that feeling. The Magic haven't even given the Celtics a decent game yet, so I can't see them being able to suddenly outplay the Celtics in 4 straight.
