Will Los Angeles Get An NFL Franchise Anytime Soon?

Y'know who should get a football team? Alaska. You can laugh, but Lambeau Field would have nothing on a December game there. Now THAT would be football. Screw LA.

lol ive thought that before it would be great .. talk about homefeild advantage try gettin used to tht time change

What's with all the LA hate? For crying out loud, LA deserves a team more than any other city. Get over it folks. LA is the ENTERTAINMENT capital of the United States, if not the world. I guess people are jealous that they have to dig their cars out of the snow, while we go to the beach in December.

LA deserves the next chance at a team. The glitz, the glamour, everything for a NFL team to enjoy would be here. Oklahoma? Alaska? Give me a break if you think these places deserve a team over LA. Stop the hating....

Yeah it's embarrassing that the NFL doesn't have a team there. I mean it's like the entertainment capital of the world is being ignored by the NFL and it looks bad to me.

in what way do they deserve a team.. they have had 2 and didnt support them and they left, how does that entitle them to another team, they obviously dont care enough, people in la like to bitch about how they want a team and when they get one they dont give a damn anymore, if you ask me they are one of the least deserving cities to have a team

The NFL is no longer a league that cares about its fans , it's all about making money. That is all! If people think that showing support for a team by attending games makes a difference ... they're kidding themselves. If the NFL can make more money w/that same franchise somewhere else , then the league has no problem in screwing over the fans who've supported ... & continue to support ... that franchise by relocating it.

this mans words ring true......

As a youth, I was one of the idiots in the football stadium for both the los Angeles rams and the los angeles raiders when they were in town, listening to both Ram Owner Frontiere and Raider Owner Al Davis lie through their teeth about their loyalty to the city and the L A fans. As soon as they found cities gullible enough to build stadiums or pay them more team subsidy money, they packed their buses in the dead of night and were gone.

its no different in other pro sports. Developers of basketball Laker home Staples center wanted the taxpayers to foot the bill for the new Laker home, and the majority of the city council were all for doling out taxpayer cash for the facility, until one councilman came to his senses and asked why should the city pay for a sports facility for a successful lucrative pro franchise?

the NFL needs a team in the nations #2 media market more than Los angeles needs the NFL. Anybody remember how they would black out the local NFL game on T V if the stadium did not sell out?

any NFL team that comes here will only be carpetbaggers waiting until the next highest city bidder comes along anyway, so who really cares?

That's exactly why it will be the LA Jaguars in 2011 or 2010. There is no way the NFL will allow the entertainment capital of the world to not be represented. It's embarrassing for the NFL and I'm embarrassed for it. Like I've said many times, the Dodgers and Lakers do very well in LA and if Los Angeles gets a team they will fill that stadium. I heard on LA shock jock DJ Tom Leykis's show (Any Leykis 101 fans here BTW? :dancingbanana:) that it was councilman Bernard Parks who was the biggest obstacle in LA's not getting an NFL franchise and urged voters to vote for the guy running against him this November. But the biggest reason the City Of Angels will get an NFL team is because it's a great get rich quick scheme for any owner of a team. Sports is just like any other part of life... follow the money and an you'll find your answer! :lick:

punkrockergirl, you sure seem to have a lot of animosity for LA. I will TELL you why we deserve a team. The simple fact that we are the nation's #2 largest city and media market. The simple fact that we are the entertainment capital of the world. The simple fact that we were SCREWED out of losing two teams. The Rams and Raiders did not leave because of lack of fan support, that was a cheap ass excuse from two moronic owners. How come the same is not said when the Ravens left Cleveland?

You must be young (20's) because you wouldn't make those statements if you REALLY KNEW what happened when the Rams and Raiders left. Georgia Frontiere took the Rams out of town despite the long standing history of the franchise. She pissed off a lot of people and under her management in the early 90's, the Rams went from Super Bowl contenders to completely horrible. Then, they leave. Hmmmmmm....sounds like the plot in the movie "Major League". Do you really think she left because fans in LA stopped supporting the Rams? If so, then I have some ocean front property in downtown Hell to sell you.

Then we have the Raiders........Enough said. Al Davis took the team out of LA out of nowhere. I will never forget that day in April 1995 when there was a "special news report" on TV. The anchormen reported that the Raiders left back to Oakland effective that day! This was a major surprise for LA fans as Al never gave any indication that we wanted to leave. Oh yeah, he said LA fans were not supporting him and the Oakland fans will, but let's look at the Raiders now shall we? Are they selling out games? NO. Yet, somehow, LA fans get the bad rap.

Speaking of fan support. Let's look at the Detroit Lions this year. Gee, they're selling out every game aren't they? Look at the Falcons last year. Did they sell out every game? NO. Last I checked, the Bengals aren't exactly having standing room only crowds, neither are the Rams or Chiefs. Now, how come these fans are not ridiculed for not "supporting" their teams? There is a LA bias out there, plain and simple. We are just like every other city. If the team is not winning, we are not showing up. Plus, we have WAY TOO MUCH stuff to do than watch teams lose. This phenomenon goes on in MANY, MANY cities.

So, keep drinking your LA haterade, as it is quite sad. You have no clue about LA and their fans. Stop the hate. When we do get a team, I will be sure to invite you to a game so you can see just how passionate LA fans can be.

dont hate la and yes bengals fans and detroit fans are ridiculed every week but hey they stand by their team and no im not early 20's im 26 thanx.. la doesnt deserve a team at all plain and simple it has nothing to do with dislike i have nothing aganist la why would i? if the fans there were passionate they wouldnt have lost their team.. look at teams with passionate fans.... steelers, cowboys, packers, ravens, bears ..there is never any talk of moving them.. if la supported a team they would still have one i can tell you if the rams or raiders were supported there they would still be there... the owners didnt move them because they had a load of fans and were making tons of money... i think the nfl should give a different city a shot la has had a chance 2 and didnt cut it ..wether u like it or not thats a fact

Did you even read what I wrote? First, I said you were young (20's), meaning you are in your 20's. Which means that you were barely a teen when the Rams and Raiders left. Also, I am guessing you did not LIVE in LA when the Rams and Raiders left, so you have no real idea on why they actually left.

Then why did Cleveland get another team? After all, Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore and renamed them the Ravens. Did he leave because the Browns no longer supported the team? Can you answer that question for me please? Why did Modell take the Browns out of Cleveland?

It's obvious you have something against LA. The ONLY thing you can say is that the fans are not passionate. No other reason, but the fans are not passionate. Well you are dealing with a passionate fan right now. Do you even watch Laker games? Dodger games? We have some of the most passionate fans there are. Stop buying into the LA stereotype. Plus the point I was making with those other teams was the simple fact that they DO NOT SELL OUT WHEN THEIR TEAMS ARE LOSING. So, why are those cities more passionate when they DO NOT SHOW UP FOR GAMES.

Stop the LA hate.

the cleveland moving was a mistake ..la teams moved twice and its not a stereotype its fact they may support the lakers and dodgers and but they dont support football.. but anyway im done arguing becasue no matter what you say or get mad about YOU DONT HAVE A TEAM TO CHEER FOR...must suck

A mistake? Art Modell moves the team to Baltimore, wins a Super Bowl and it's a mistake? Ah yes, I love it when people have no clue what they're talking about and make silly statements. A mistake......C'mon now. You have to do better than that.

It's good that you will stop this LA hate. You didn't live in LA, so you do not have a clue on our passion. We STILL have way too many fans supporting the Raiders for some unknown reason. The passion for football is high. But why should I expect you to understand that. Besides the pure LA hatred, you actually stated that Modell made a mistake in moving the Browns to Baltimore. Yeah, you know a lot about LA fans...... Oh yeah, I have this hot property to sell you. It has a nice ocean view and a really gentle breeze. The temperature can get really hot. You might run into some demons and stuff, but then again, it is located in downtown Hell. Interested?

yes a mistake as the nfl admitted years later.. sating they should never have allowed the team to move,, and no i dont live in la but the nfl seems to agree with me and not u ..hence you dont have a team

btw the moving of the browns to baltimore had nothing to do with them winning a superbowl they would have won anyway

primetime i would like to hear one reason ..a real reason as to why la deserves a team .. not because of a big media market or passionate fans or a bunch of money becasue those things couldnt keep 2 teams there.. one reason as to why the nfl should put a team there as apposed to a city that hasnt been given a chance

First of all, the "mistake" is not the NFL allowing the Browns to move. The OWNER of the Browns decided to make the move. Just like Al Davis and Georgia Frontiere did. Modell moved his team for the same reason Davis and Frontiere moved theirs. They are greedy. It didn't have anything to do with fan support. They did it because of MONEY. Stop looking at the "stereotype" of LA people. Look at reality. The "lack" of fan support is NOT the reason why the Rams and Raiders left.

I gave you REAL reasons. We are the #2 media market. We are the entertainment capital of the world. We have PASSIONATE fans (live here and find out!). What does another city have to offer that LA can't? You asked to give you a real reason. Well, what's a REAL reason why another city deserves a team over LA. What does another city have to offer a team that LA can't? Passionate fans? Please, we HAVE those. What else?

the question is what does la have to offer to warrant a 3rd chance over a city that hasnt gotten one? its failed twice there it would fail again.. it would be nice to see another city get a chance.. somewhere in hawaii, alaska, iowa, nebreska, oklahoma, oregon, even toronto.. la doesnt deserve a 3rd chance.. anyway i dont care enough about this to keep arguing.. im a fan of the greatest team ever the steelers.. simple fact if you do get a team its not happening any time soon so you can unbundle your panties and stop the crying

First of all, I'm not crying. Second, people like you that have no clue on what they are talking about entertain me. The places you name have a population of WHAT? Next to nothing?! The CITY of LA would provide more fans, more media exposure and more MONEY than ANY OF THE PLACES you just named. Give me a break. It's good that you're going to stop because you are getting more ridiculous by the minute.

Did you ever stop and think for a minute that LA was GOING to get a team but Houston's owner decided to pony up nearly a billion dollars. Houston AT THE LAST MINUTE got the team because the owner decided to put up more money than the NFL has ever seen for a new franchise. The league was going to award the franchise to LA, but money talks.

Another reason that LA doesn't have the team is the fact that the Coliseum Comission is made up of a bunch of morons who think the LA Coliseum is a suitable stadium for a NFL franchise and it isn't. I just went to the stadium recently and it is OLD. There needs to be a new stadium. That is a major roadblock for getting a team. AGAIN, it has N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with fan support.

If LA wasn't so important, then why is Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell trying to put a team in LA? Did you ever stop and think that the places you mentioned could not financially handle a NFL team. Notice that the places you just name, except Toronto, even have a PROFESSIONAL sports team. What are you talking about? Oh yeah, I forgot, you have no clue on what you're talking about.

Um, i'm not the one wearing the panties in this conversation. Are you a man? I thought not....Besides, you started this by mouthing off about my town. Keep doing it and I will continue to make you look silly. Your whole rationale for saying LA doesn't deserve a team is due to no fan support. We HAVE fan support. Stop making ignorant statements that you can't back up. You really don't have any idea why LA lost both teams and what the difficulty is for granting another team. Bet your bottom dollar that we will get a team that moves. I just hope you are man, excuse me, woman enough to claim that the team that does move, only moved because their former home city didn't have fan support. After all, that's your reason why you say LA lost their team. You really don't have a clue do you?

yep thats it i dont know what im talking about when you have nothing intelligent to say its i dont know what im talking about.. whatever i have a team to root for how about u

my last point to make here is L.A is a front runner city so unless they put a team there set up to win quick it will die ..

I'm glad you finally recognize you have no clue on what you're talking about. Let's review your argument as to why LA doesn't have a team. Wait, what is it again? Oh yeah, you say we lost two teams because we have no fan support. You also go on to say that desolate States (in comparison to one city) deserves a team more than the #2 media market.

Yes, these are ridiculous arguments. Really, a team in Alaska should happen before a team in LA? A team in Iowa before LA? Yeah, that sounds like good ideas. Man, the amount of money the NFL would make in those places is so astronomical, I wonder why it hasn't happened? Use your brain.....

I actually told you why the Rams and Raiders left. You seem to have a comprehensions problem because you still say "lack of fan support". Despite the fact that when other teams lose and lose constantly (i.e. Detroit), they are not selling out their stadiums (you do realize that great fan support is selling out stadiums regardless of record right?), yet LA fans are blasted for doing the same behavior. I also pointed out the simple fact that Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore because he was "greedy", it had nothing to do with fan support. Same reasons why the Rams and Raiders left. Notice NEITHER team is selling out this season ever. Hmmmmmm....does that mean a bunch of LA fans moved to Oakland and St. Louis, then purposely not showed up to games? No. It means that the Raiders and Rams suck, that's why fans are not showing up. LA does this SAME BEHAVIOR and that means we're not passionate. GIVE ME A BREAK.

Yes, you have no clue on what you are talking about. Step aside, learn some facts, then come back at me. You sound silly. By the way, did you grow up in Pittsburgh? And, I DO have a team I root for. Guess who they are. I will give you a hint. They ALSO have 5 SuperBowls and they are the ONLY team to have won more than one Superbowl and remain UNDEFEATED in SuperBowl games. You can't say that about Pittsburgh....Do you know who they are?

that would be san fran and no i didnt grow up in pitt my dad did and i have watched games with him since i was 2

Since the NFL is all about money then there's no way LA remains without a team. And you know what team will relocate there?

The Buffalo Bills.

The average ticket price in big NFL markets (ie boston and dallas) easily top $100 while ticket prices in Buffalo are consistently the cheapest in the league ($51 average) due to the anemic economy. Ticket prices could easily be doubled in a city like LA. The Bills are already being *****d out to Toronto, a not so subtle indication that the waters are being tested for relocation. Also, the Bills owner is 90 years old and plans on having his estate sell the team after he kicks the bucket.

I f-ing HATE the idea, but the writing's on the wall...LA Bills in 5 years.

Remember though, its not an issue of Support...its about MONEY. How much could the NFL get away with charging fans in Oklahoma? In Buffalo the Bills have TONS of support and constantly sell out a fairly large stadium of 71,000. The lack of corporate sponsorship in Buffalo however means few luxury suites and the lowest average ticket prices in the NFL at $51. Oklahoma would surely be able to fill a stadium but will the NFL be able to charge an average $90 ticket there? I think the league would rather put a second franchise in one of the big cities rather than go for another small market. Sadly, its all about cash, not fan loyalty.

I must say that I've been a die-hard Bills fan for over 20 years (I know, I know, since Jim Kelly retired this is about the time of year I start my Prozac treatments)... and I've called Los Angeles my home for 11 years. Needless to say, what gluestick is saying has crossed my mind many times. I believe that if and when the Bills do move, more than likely it will be to Toronto... because I believe the NFL is more interested in international expansion... Canada is the most likely place to start that agenda.

However, there is still a chance that L.A's new team could be the Bills... which would devastate me personally... as a Buffalo Bills supporter, an Angeleno, and an NFL fan. I would be willing to support an L.A. franchise as my secondary team, however my Bills moving here would be a paradox in so many ways... as well as laying waste to one of the most loyal fan bases in the country and further ruining Western New York's economy which relies on their team more than many other cities.

As far as why we haven't gotten a team here yet, I think primetime has it correct... especially the part about Angelenos not wanting to foot a bill that's bound to be at least a billion... and God knows if the NFL returns, they won't pay for a damned thing. We will....

So, hypothetically, what they may be telling me is "Hey Sammy! After dropping thousands upon thousands over the years for our programming, games, merchandise, etc. we are going to move your beloved team to your doorstep, thereby rendering their exsistence and history null, void, and erased after 50 years or more... and, oh, we want you to pay for it!"

Protest would be an understatement... Starting new L.A. riots and setting a brand new stadium aflame would be more likely... :Grrr:

Good to see an Angeleno w/a good head on his shoulders , Sammy Scales.

"A die-hard Bills fan" , eh? I always love hearing that there's fans of the Bills who aren't actually in Buffalo. I know there is a lot of ya out there , too ... puts a big ol' smile on my face.

Whenever you wanna talk 'Bills' , then hit me up anytime. Though , w/the way they've been goin' lately , it's not really a fun topic of conversation.

Thanks TKLMAN!! Yeah... I've never lived anywhere near Buffalo, but about the time I got into football as a kid was when Marv Levy's team began their rise... 87-88 or so...

And yes, I shall hit ya up... We can talk about some of the moronic moves Mr. Wilson has made as of late... including scheduling a very important division game against the arch-rival Fish in neutral Toronto!!! Ughhhh....
