A bit of clarification
From a practicing Wiccan (Eclectic Style, Celtic Tradition);
"Witch" is used currently as a general term for the various styles and traditions of Wicca; (Gardnerian, Eclectic, etc), which, to simplify it, is a religion that worships a Goddess (and many times, a counterpart God) as the deity(s) of the highest level, in the same manner as the Hebrew God, or the Muslim Allah (we also believe that everyone who prays to "God" worships the same entity, that we just call him/her by different names and worship in our own fashions. The Wiccan God/Goddess are just the complementing halves of the whole (Yin/Yang, Anima/Animus, etc etc)
Witches do not worship Satan; as a matter of fact, most of us don't even believe in him.
Witches *do* cast spells; however, these spells are no different than a Catholic lighting a votive candle and saying a Novena to St Jude; You light a candle, burn some incense, and concentrate on the purpose at hand....every religion has it rituals; we just make more tools for them. (wands, staffs, athamae and bollen (ritual knives), oils, etc)
Witches do NOT, as a rule, sacrifice animals...the first rule of Wicca is "As Ye Harm None, Do As You Will"...and the great majority believe that includes animals. Most "blood-drinkers" are guys who played WAY too much D & D in High School, and just wanna scare people.
A note on curses; A "white witch" who lays a curse on someone is looking for a major Karmic payback; the Threefold Law is that whatever action/energy you release into the world, will be returned upon you threefold...good = three times the good, bad = three times the bad, etc. Who wants that kind of hassle?
