A woman who told police she saw a newborn boy tossed out of a car onto a street in North Lauderdale, Florida, is the child's mother and made up the bizarre story, police said on Friday.

The woman, Patricia Pokriots, 38, has been committed for psychiatric evaluation and has not been charged with a crime, police said.

The baby, nicknamed Johny, is in stable and improving condition.

Pokriots took the newborn, with umbilical cord still attached, to a police station on Thursday and told investigators she had seen the child thrown from a car onto a grassy area in North Lauderdale, just northwest of Fort Lauderdale.

"The situation has become both happy and sad but it's not as horrible as we first thought," Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne said at a news conference on Friday. "The baby was never thrown out of a moving car.

"This is a case of a disturbed woman who gave birth but did not want to keep her child and made up an incredible story."

Jenne said Pokriots admitted to investigators on Friday morning that she had given birth to the child on Thursday in the bathroom of her mother's home.

When Pokriots initially spoke to police, she said she had seen a man and woman in a white, older model car arguing. The car's passenger door opened and the baby, wrapped in a plastic bag, was tossed out, she said.

On Friday morning, she told investigators she had put the child into her pickup truck and was driving to a fire station to give it up when she encountered the arguing couple in the white car and decided to create a story around that incident.

Under a Florida statute known as the Safe Haven Law, parents can hand over newborns up to three days old to the staff of a hospital, firehouse or ambulance station without being prosecuted.

Jenne said the woman -- who had been called a Good Samaritan in initial news reports -- had not been charged with a crime. "Frankly the only charge I could think of ... would be making a false police report," he said of potential charges.

"As horrific and wrong as (her) story is, if she had just taken baby Johny to the fire station (and) left him there, we couldn't have asked any questions," he said.

Pokriots declined to identify the father, police said.

The woman has indicated she does not want the boy and the sheriff's department has had numerous calls from people offering to adopt him, Jenne said.

The woman also has another child, a 10-year-old, who has been taken from her and put into state custody.

This is living proof that there are people in this world who should be born sterilized! She needs the ability to procreate like I need to eat glass and hurl myself into oncoming traffic!:sowrong: :sowrong:

What is this world coming to???😕

of their own actions
See the problem with this statement is that everyone is too worried about what everyone else is doing, ya know?

So let me get this straight. A crazy slut went out to fuck some bone head. She had a kid, decided she didn't want it, threw it out of a car, made up a story, then told the truth? Yup... now I've seen everything.

Good advertisement why Freedom Of Choice for Abortion and the Opening of New Asylums should be given serious thought.

TTD :sowrong: :wow: 😡

Thank God that the baby is not hurt to bad Saying that this woman should be shot!!!! Yes my blood is boiling I admit that It really pisses me off seeing an adult doing harm to an infant or a small child I wonder if people like that would have the guts to try and harm an adult who can fight back:sowrong:

Will wonders never cease. I actually agree with kis123.

I totally agree.

People should take responsibility for their own actions. If they are unwilling to live with the consequences of their own actions (remember the phrasing there) then they shouldnt behave in a way that will ultimately hurt others.

Awwwwww tieler;

Kis loves 'ya no matter what!!:Kiss2: :twohugs: If there were a smilie with a white flag attached, I'd put it here on your behalf!

Seriously speaking, there are always consequences when people do anything. Sex is just one of the "biggies", so to speak because it carries so many consequences. This is just another example of what I've said thread after thread. People want the fun thrill and rush of the sex but don't want to be responsible for the consequences they may have to pay. This woman was 38 years old. This is unacceptable behavior for a 15yr old much less a woman nearly 40. She's simply without excuse and needs her twot sewn up!

Now, her 10yr old is a ward of the state. The poor child will probably end up as nutty as the mother. It's a real shame so many people have to suffer CONSEQUENCES of the actions and decisions this woman made.

I'm not trying to turn this religious, but stick with me for a minute. There's a passage in the bible that says (paraphrase) before a builder builds the building, he first counts up the costs. In other words, before he makes a decision to start something, he first adds up what that decision will cost down the road-in the future. Also, I believe that Native Americans make decisions based on six generations into the future. If people would take the time to work that decision one year, even five years down the road instead of being impulsive and self-gratifying living in the moment, maybe a lot of this crap wouldn't happen.

As Lime said, if people spent more time worrying about what mess their own actions create and less time worrying about others, the world would be a much better place.

With all the fucking freakos and nuts and wackos I meet in the daily course of my employment, I'm actually surprised stuff like this doesn't happen more often.

I'm interested in just what drove this woman off the edge, even though no one else is. It's far easier to concentrate on the effects, than ruminate on the cause, isn't it?

:bouncybou :couch: :ranty:

So simple, yet so profound, isn't it? It's easier to point fingers and more difficult to find out the causes. I've been saying this over a couple of threads only to have my head handed to me on a plate. But I wasn't saying it with these words.

I'm even more interested in if she didn't want children, why didn't she make arrangements to not have any? The baby will easily be adopted, but what happens to the ten-year-old who is now a ward of the state?

The good news is someone looking to adopt will have a healthy baby boy to raise, and a troubled woman has unintentionally positioned herself to get the serious help she obviously needs.

From the stories I have heard over the last few days, she let no one know she was pregnant and didnt want the baby so she used this as a way to make sure it was taken care of without taking responsibility...

In Connecticut we have a ""safe haven" law that lets any woman bring her new baby to any hospital and leave it their with no prosecution. It helps to avoid situations like this and also helps to avoid situations of abandonments that could harm the child.

Not the perfect solution, but at least kids arent thrown in dumpsters or left on doorsteps as much here any more.

sigh....
