The Giants have a nice mix of great young pitching (Cain, Vogelsong, Lincecum, Bumgarner) and steady veterans (Zito and Wilson, when he's healthy) and score just enough runs on offense to get it done. Plus Bruce Bochey is a phenominal skipper that pushes all the right buttons at the right time. But the real reason for the Giants success, in my opinion, is the addition of catcher Buster Posey. He's been in the league for three years and the Giants have won the WS twice in those three seasons and Buster was hurt the year they didn't win it. He is a clutch hitter that hits for both power and average and is one of the best defensive catchers in the league (the dude has a cannon for an arm). But the main reason for him being the cornerstone of this "mini-dynasty" is his knowledge and understanding of the game at a position that demands both and his relationship with the pitching staff. Matt Cain's perfect game earlier this year is the perfect example. During that game, Cain didn't shake Posey off a single time. That is unheard of. That shows extraodrinary knowledge of both the game and the hitter at the plate by Posey and the utmost ammount of trust in his catcher by Cain. So to answer your question, yes, there is definitely something special happening down by the Bay! As long as they can keep their core group of guys together, look for the Giants to be in the mix every year for years to come.
