WWE signs ROH's Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson

ROH issued the following press release today:

Nigel McGuinness has agreed in principle to a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.

Nigel has been a tremendous leader in the Ring of Honor locker room and, without question, a wonderful performer. His merits, both in and out of the ring, are extraordinary and any locker room with Nigel McGuinness in it is better for it. We couldn’t be happier for Nigel as he takes the next step in his stellar wrestling career, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nigel for all he’s worked for and through.

Nigel has pledged to fulfill his scheduled Ring of Honor commitments. Please join us in Philadelphia, Boston, and New York as we bid an extremely fond farewell to another member of our family.

Everyone at Ring of Honor is extremely proud to have called both Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson their own; and we looking forward to seeing their stars shine brighter than ever. Like many of the wonderful sons of Ring of Honor that have written new chapters in their wrestling annals, we will look on with a bittersweet smile to the future where we have no doubt that Nigel and Bryan will amaze the masses – just like they’ve done so many times in Ring of Honor.

With the closing of this chapter a new one opens in Ring of Honor. We now look to an exciting time where new stars will blaze their own paths, while looking back in reverence to those who came before them. Who will seize the opportunity and carry the torch for ROH? We only hope that whoever it is will carry it with the same respect - the same honor - that Bryan and Nigel have.


I've always thought the WWE should be pursuing independent wrestlers more often. I hope that they sign some of the women on the indy circuit who can actually wrestle.

From what I've read, the main reason WWE is raiding ROH talent is because ROH started running television programs on Monday nights, which conflicts with Raw.

TNA, a more mainstream company, doesn't run opposite WWE, and thus has so far remained relatively free of Vinnie Mac flashing his checkbook.

I enjoy American Dragon (Danielson), and while I've never seen a Nigel match, I hear he is also quite good, so I look forward to seeing them.

Well, considering WWE likes to have sole rights to the names of their stars, I doubt Nigel is keeping his name. Unless he wants to hand it over, he'll probably go for a name change, in case WWE doesnt work out.

Bryan Danielson, however, now that's his real name, so that should work. I doubt we'll call him "American Dragon", but at least he'll be recognized.

Ditto. There are so many talented (and good-looking) female wrestlers, for example Daizee Haze, Nevaeh, Christie Ricci, Lizzy Valentine, Rain, Lorelei Lee to name a few.

I wish a lot of success for Danyelson and McGuiness. But I agree signing with WWE is a toss up. See Colt Cabana and CM Punk.

I just checked FCW's website, and it says he is inactive due to injury. I could not find a single piece of info on what the injury was, or how long he'd be out.

Are they just paying him to sit around, or is there more to this story?

I forgot he even signed with them.

He did 2-3 dark matches and then was sent to the developmental regions

Point being he had no need to be developed
