Pro Wrestler Chris Jericho's fight with Victoria fan hits YouTube

VICTORIA — Pro wrestler Chris Jericho punched a woman outside Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre after a World Wrestling Entertainment bout Saturday, an altercation captured by a witness on a cellphone camera and posted on YouTube.

Witnesses say the incident occurred when Jericho was surrounded by hundreds of people heckling him after he lost yesterday’s RAW Live WWE bout.

Victoria police confirmed there was an altercation outside the arena, but said the wrestler left before police had a chance to speak to him. Two fans were arrested but later released. Const. Theresa Tuttle said no charges have been laid and the incident is under investigation.

WWE issued a statement saying that Jericho’s car was “attacked by a mob” when he was attempting to leave the parking lot. It said when he got out of the car to clear a path, he was physically and verbally assaulted, until arena and WWE security arrive to re-establish order. The statement said the attackers fled the scene, but it made no mention of Jericho throwing a punch.

One witness said she saw the 225-pound wrestler spit in a woman’s face after she approached his white Chevy Tahoe and castigated him for losing the heavyweight championship to John Cena. With spit dripping down her face, the woman started hitting him, said Darshan Stevens, who watched from about a metre away. Jericho turned and punched her in the face, she said.

“I was really surprised that a pro wrestler would do that with everyone watching,” Stevens said. “And hit a girl, what are you thinking?”

Jericho took off, she said, just minutes before several Victoria police cruisers arrived.

The woman who was hit, 20-year-old Ashley Levey, said the altercation began when her boyfriend, Kalen Johl, heckled Jericho as he drove through the parking lot. Jericho got out of his vehicle, Levey said, and made a derogatory comment to Johl, who is South Asian. She said Jericho pushed Kohl first. Levey called Jericho a racist, so he spit on and punched her, she said.

Levey said she and Johl were later arrested but released without charge.

That's an interesting spin on it. It was reported in other papers that he was already in his vehicle, a guy started pounding on his windows and getting in the way of the vehicle. It then said when he got out of the car, a woman spit on him, someone was pushed, he pushed back and the woman was knocked down as a result. It never said he put his hands on the woman.

I don't like Jericho and there's too much obstruction in the video to clearly see it all, but I'm doubting that a guy who does this 300 days a year for two decades is going to just get out of a car, spit on a woman and punch her in the face in front of dozens of cameras and then drive off. No charges were filed against him, even with the video evidence. There was also no mention of a racial slur.. He did tell the security to "... do their fucking job!".

the hollywood brother do not know the thurth but think on this for a minute. chris was trained by the hart family. in the hart family you were always in your role when you were around the fans. right now the role of Y2J is that of a bad guy or a heel. what better way to get the fans to hate you then to interact negativly with them. this could al,l be staged or it oculd be the jericho saw a opportunity to generate more heat for himself and mmore hatred for his character. this scenario would not suprise me as the lead singer of Fozzy is a professional who grew up around stampede wrestling and knows hw to be almost the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

It does look like he punches the woman if you slow the crappy video down. However, whether or not it's his fault is now irrelevant! Please forgive me for this, but... I couldn't resist. Even if she deserved it you don't punch a woman. I don't give a fuck about the reasoning behind it. Unless she's coming at you with a machete or something. I seriously doubt that this was staged. The WWE (WWF) learned their lesson when Sgt. Slaughter was getting death threats for openly supporting Iraq and Saddam Hussein back in the early 90's. Plus they've done their share of staging and they know how to do it right. My guess is that Jericho is probably ramped up on the same stuff that Chris Benoit was on. My guess that if it is not staged this will go to trial. No good lawyer would let anything like this slide by unexploited.

The two fans who leaped at him were arrested. He was not. There are no charges pending on him, there is no further investigation. There have been official statements released by both the WWE and the police. His vehicle was being blocked and pounded by a couple idiots. When he got out of the car, he was spit on and the pushing began. She ended up on her ass. No one outside the forum is saying he punched a woman, especially based on the video. So feel free to take this thread to 8 pages of speculation before actually going outside to read the reports.

And you don't punch women. For any reason. No matter how much one might deserve it, you don't do it. You walk away. Men do, anyway. Bullies and children don't.

Alright look, I don't support men punching women either. However...

In this particular incident you can see Jericho has piss-poor security. Fans got too close and were blocking him from leaving. You don't do that.

You see on the video that the girl touched Jericho's arm and he remained his cool and didn't do anything. When he turns to enter his vehicle the girl lunges at him from behind and Jericho punched. How could he know who was coming after him?

He then starts to push people out of the area around him to clear the area. He then got mad that security wasn't doing what they were supposed to do.

By the way, to say he must be juiced on roids I think is a pretty dumb thing to say.

I'm gonna agree with the majority of posts (which I pretty much already have) that the woman got the proper reaction from him. WWE wrestlers, though not as bad as boxers or martial artists, do respond to instant actions with a certain degree of violence, especially in a situation lush with stress and annoying fans. Yes it's sad that the woman got decked, but honestly, she should have known better.

To touch briefly on the 'never hit a woman' I disagree. Feminism ruined the entire dainty aspect women used to flaunt. You don't beat women, just like you wouldn't beat any other human being. Sadly stupidity knows no gender guidelines, and if Jericho had decked a man people would care a lot less.

Chivalry and nobility have an entirely different outlook in our world. You should walk away from any fight, if the person fails to let you go and continues to berate you (much like this woman did) and eventually takes a lunge (which I have no idea what the hell she was thinking) knock their ass out.

I am gonna have to disagree with you Fd and Izzy. If women want to scream equality, and being of and ethnic background I am all for it, then you can not say "you should not hit a woman for no reason. If she puts hands on you first then they are equally viable to be hit back. At least you see he did not try to beat her down, like her boyfriend.

It's easy for everyone to say watching a stranger on youtube, but if I punched your mother, sister, girlfriend or wife, I doubt there's be an acceptable reason for it and none of you would say "Well, mom... you had it coming" or "Yeah, my wife needs hit by strangers if she acts like that."

Well, I will say it was a piss poor security job allowing the wrestler to be put in that position. They should have instantly escorted the trouble making couple away at the first sign of trouble.

On the whole "hitting a woman" thing... you shouldn't do it. I'm not saying you can "never" hit a woman, but there would have to be some pretty extreme circumstances. I don't think Jericho was necessarily put into those extreme circumstances assuming if he -did- punch her (can't see the connection on the video).

I'd almost bet there is a security camera tape somewhere that would tell the whole story of what went down...

If any woman I knew was being as annoying as this one was and actually lunged at a person, let them get hit, they should know better and they deserved it.

Now if someone just walked up to any of the women I knew and slugged them for no reason I'd put'em in the hospital, just like any other friend of mine.

What of female boxers or weightlifters or shot putters? I know a few women who would kick the shit out of some guys I know (in the case of female boxers I believe they also have to register their hands as deadly weapons much like how male ones do...honestly in that case I'd have them arrested because it would screw their lives up worse then I could).

I was wondering the same thing. I doubt the WWE folks would stage something like this, but for crying out loud, where are their brain cells? How can anyone in this day and age think that the bouts are not scripted any more? Does that crowd also still believe the moon landings were a hoax and that Clinton is still President?

Looks like P.T. Barnum was right after all...
