yay another knee reconstruction

I get home Saturday night from a little trip and on my answering machine is a message from my doctor saying call him as soon as I get the message.

As I said in a previous post I felt a sharp pain in my knee while running and it started to swell pretty much straight away and with that the pain kept on getting worse, went my doctor (who is a sport injury specialist) he said there isn't much to do at that moment other then see if the swelling goes down itself etc.

I rang my doctor this morning and he told me after looking at my new and old x-rays it looks like my collateral ligament is tearing and that its only a matter of time before it snaps or tears completely.

The earliest I could get him to do the operation is Wednesday morning. As you can probably tell I'm not in the best frame of mind at this time at least this time around I have the support of Dani (my girlfriend).

I can relate to what you are going through. I had a ACL knee reconstruction about 8yrs ago. I tore my ACL completely inhalf playing softball and also damaged my menicus. Are they going to use your patella tendon as the new medial collateral?
My doctor told me that if I was in my 50`s & wasn`t always playing sports that I didn`t have to do the surgery . But if I didn`t then I could forget about softball, waterskiing, weightlifting, snowskiing, and all the other activities I liked.
I am very glad that I had the surgery so I could keep my active lifestyle. The BEST advice I can give you is to DO ALL THE REHAB because that is the key to a fast & full recovery. If you have any questions feel free to give me a shout. Good luck with the surgery & the rehab.

Kust, I am very sorry to hear that your knee has to be reconstructed, my friend. I do hope that the operation is a success, and that after the operation and rehab, your knee will then be fine. Having Dani's support will definitely help, as it is always good to have a significant other by your side at a time like this.
