I am sneaking out of my self-imposed hibernation to ask if anyone is interested in one of my tickets to the May 13th YES concert at Madison Square Garden. You would be joining me.

Obviously, the company of a lady is preferable, but i am an equal opportunity concert offeror.

You can e-mail me at: [email protected] if you are interested.

Hiya Baron! Hope all is well.

Ann Drew Tracy and I will be seeing them the day before in Connecticut.....

And then we will be heading for NEST!

Cant wait for both.

I'm catching them in Montreal later in the season. This will be my third time at a Yes concert, they put on some fantastic shows.

In my opinion this is an act of pure genius. Simple ideas and plans are often the best.
Not only are you going to meet a fellow ticklephile, you get the opportunity to meet one with similar interests/tastes in music.

Pretty impressive dude.

Makes me wish I lived on the east coast. I really like YES.

oh that sly mind we ticklephiles possess.

and if you find yourself on the east coast, seeker, we'll dig up a good concert for you.

We just got back from the Yes concert up in Ledyard, I've never seen them put on a better concert as they did tonight. I won't give anything away, Baron. Just be prepared to be very psyched!

Drew

i have been to over 30 YES concerts since 1972 and indeed it was the best one yet!!! Amazing ... But like Drew I will not give anything away 😀

Ray

wow! such rave reviews. should i still go, or simply take a nap instead?

alright, you guys talked me into it.

thanks for the update.

well, i must agree they were outstanding! the best i've seen them.

unfortunately, my last bus home left the city at eleven, so i wound up missing the last 20-30 minutes. no doubt the best part of the show, i imagine.

who can fill me in on what i missed? i'm guessing "starship trooper" and "heart of the sunrise".

they did an unbelieveable version of "and you and I". it sounded as though you simply cranked up your home stereo. and it was great to hear "wondrous stories". the guys suprised me by wearing classy threads. especially Jon - he wasn't clad in his traditional burka-like schmata. Rick changed once into a bright lime-green thingy.

the blow-up of their album cover was cool.

did anyone buy the 35th anniversary tourbook? it is great. super pictures and commentary.

smurfie -

you're too young and innocent to know about the hypnotic 70's when progressive rock and love-ins were all the rage!

😉

Love-ins in the 70's!!!!! More of a 60's thing,isn't it!?

As for Progressive Rock, there has been nothing in music that has bettered that era yet!
Bands like Yes,Pink Floyd, and the original Genesis w/Peter Gabriel
"composed" songs that were challenging, not only to the musicians but to the listener as well. The need to expand a musical piece beyond 3:59
was the norm for these bands. As a former teenage drummer,I relished compositions that went beyond 4/4 Time!

Suggested Listenings for Smurfie
Yes CD's-"Fragile" '72.- Listen to this first before venturing into
"Close to the Edge" '72 .Then You'll be ready for the
ultimate Prog Rock CD "Tales from Topographic Oceans" '73

Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" '73 and the greatest Rock CD/Album of all time: "Wish You Were Here" '75

Genesis - "Genesis-Live" '73 (Not "Seconds Out" '78 -Gabriel had left and Phil Collins was close to selling out the band!)
and "The Lamb lies Down on Broadway" -"74

we ignored 1969's harkening, and continued loving in, for some time thereafter.

😛

and perhaps for smurfie, some of the later work by Asia would give her an updated progressive rock feel.

Judging that the set list didn't alter from the May 7th Toronto Show, they would have closed with "Ritual" and encored with the Beatles song "Every Little Thing" (which they covered on the very first Yes Album in 1969)and the piece called "Soon",which was the final part of "The Gates of Delirium" from the Relayer Album (1976).
They were trying to cover alittle bit of (almost) every album released in their 35 Years. There obviously were a few albums left out!

Fortunately,in the 6 times I've seen them ('78,'91,'97,'01,'02 & '04),I've seen them perform every song that I would've like to see them play. However,I would have liked to see them play "Starship Trooper" and "Close to the Edge" with Rick in the Band...Ooh Well.

I BELIEF RICK STOLE THIS SHOW! -particularly with his mini moog work on "South Side of the Sky"

I SO wanted to go to that show when they came here *sighs* Sounds like they put on an incredible show! Gotta love Starship Trooper

Baron, the May 12th Yes show in Conn., the encore was "Every Little Thing" followed by "Starship Trooper". I still can't believe how good this show was. 3 and a half hours long with an awesome "unplugged" set. Me and Venray were commenting on how can they possibly top this show.

Oh, did Jon Anderson go into the audience and venture to the back during "Rhythm of Love" when you saw them in N.Y.?

Drew

I must be cursed!

Oh! That's great!Once again, just like in '78,they wait until the end of the tour to play "Starship Trooper" (My favourite all time song!).
(Expletive deleted).
I did see them perform this song in '97,however,not with Rick Wakeman!
He always provides that great mini moog solo on the LP "Yessongs" - just before Steve Howe takes us home with that great guitar solo!
If they come back later this year or next,I'm demanding they play this song!

socksoff

i checked out the official YES website which lists the songs performed at each venue. it also allows attendees to post their reviews.

it appears they did end with Starship Trooper at madison square garden.

and yes, Jon walked into the audience during Rhythm of Love. it was nice to see.

i should also add that during And You and I, the crowd went so crazy that Jon and the whole band literally had to stop playing for about 2 minutes. they then resumed the final few licks and words to finish it up.

I always have wondered why that tune is as popular as it.I think it's a good song, but I'd take "Heart of the Sunrise","Starship Trooper",and "Yours is no Disgace" over that piece.
(As you noted at your concert)-The Toronto crowd also got very excited at that big wind-up before the final verse.I think that the sound was also brought up at that point.[Alot of Bottom end at this point to make your heart vibrate!]
"Starship Tooper" is a great final song because it has that ending that allows the crowd to clap along.(A piece written by Steve Howe called "Wurm").On the "Yessongs" album,Steve delivers an end solo that
ranks,in my opinion,in the top 25 all time guitar solos!

I just went thru the Rick Wakeman solo catalog on Barnes and Noble. He has a cd called..........."HUMMINGBIRD"!!!!!!!!

I just don't know what to say???

:wow: 😕 😱 :illogical
