Ok here is the deal. I was watching Turner classic movie channel and they were showing short films from different directors. One director featured was named George Marshall. He directed a short film called "The old Bull" in 1932. I told you it was an old film. Anyhow one of the leading actresses was named Zasu Pitts. Apparently she started out a silent movie actress and moved into the sound age. To make a long story longer she and her friend were driving out of control and wrecked into a farmers barn. While she tried to get out of the car her foot was stuck so the farmer tried to help her get loose. The tickling if there actually is any is never seen. She does however laugh and say a couple of times that it tickles. So just so everyone knows it just a good natured piece..nothing ground breaking...so hopefully that helps you decide whether to download the vid. Also i added a few caps to show her reaction..or acting..who knows. Also one vid in 2 formats. If nothing else i have never seen this mentioned or anything made of it before so its new in a matter of speaking..at least to me.

pitts

She actually played a villainess on an episode of the Batman series in the sixties as well. I believe she was the Black Widow.

Cool post.

Can it be...a tickling auteur?

Great find, Prime! Thanks!
This clip is from a film in a very undersung series from Hal Roach Studios, the folks who brought us the best Laurel & Hardy movies. The blonde is the vivacious Thelma Todd, a wonderful comedienne in many films in the early '30s, opposite L&H, the Marx Brothers, and Wheeler & Woolsey (Who?) among others.
Zasu Pitts is probably best remembered for co-starring in Gale Storm's TV sitcom in the '50s, but she made lots of films, including the legendary 1925 silent GREED (Definitely NOT a comedy. No tickling there, no suh!). She's particularly good in the 1935 classic RUGGLES OF RED GAP, where she's romanced by Charles Laughton (!).
Thelma teamed with Zasu in 17 shorts over three years. Zasu moved on, and Thelma then was paired with the brassy Patsy Kelly for 21 more shorts. Alas, Thelma died--officially accidentally, tho' some call it murder--of exhaust poisoning in her car in her garage in 1935.
There's one tickling incident in the Todd/Kelly series: in the very last entry, 1935's ALL-AMERICAN TOOTHACHE, Thelma tickles someone's foot ever so briefly during the very funny climactic free-for-all.
Rookie George Marshall, who directed Thelma and Zasu in this clip, went on to direct comedies--including such classics as DESTRY RIDES AGAIN with Jimmy Stewart and MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE with Bob Hope--for nearly 40 more years. Ticklephiles should thank him for one of the best mainstream tickling scenes of all, in the 1947 feature VARIETY GIRL. There, in a delicious bit, Mary Hatcher is foot tickled while recording a voice for a George Pal Puppetoon, and becomes musically hilarious.
(TMF stalwart Haltickling posted a great clip from VARIETY GIRL here last year. Find it at: http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=60838
I know you could have gone to IMDB, too, if you really needed to know all that. But, I'm trying to procrastinate doing some real work, and recalling all this stuff is fun!

segue to George Pal

Long as you're dribbling trivia, George Pal went on to do "When Worlds Collide," a sci fi classic. Also in Variety Girl was DeForrest Kelley, who became the doctor on Star Trek.

glad folks enjoyed the clip. I appreciate the background information as well from both TeeHeeLawrence and theatergoer. Its always good to learn something..thanks fellas. My guess is there is tons of stuff out there like this that is just waiting to be found or in my case stumbed upon. Little by little in time we will find most of it.

Wow was Thelma Todd pretty, I can't believe she was in 3 mainstream tickling scenes and never herself was tickled. I'm definitely goin to investigate that. Anyone know if it was a male or female she apparently quickly tickled in all-american toothache?

Cool post.

Actually, Tallulah Bankhead played Black Widow on the Batman TV series. ZaSu Pitts did appear in many films however.

How the heck did I miss this for the last four years? LOL!

Is that an animal in the hay ? Im thinking maybe it was licking her leg or her foot because she lost her shoe. Does anyone think something different ? She was trying to say it tickles

One other, actually, in the short I'LL BE SUING YOU. Patsy Kelly's foot is licked by a cat, with ticklish results.

Great find, Prime.

Here's a pic of Zasu getting a stocking removed in the silent movie "The Wedding March."

I wonder why she looks so apprehensive. 😀

She has GOOD reason!

Believe me, if you were subject to the lecherous whims of Erich von Stroheim (the gent in this pic and the director of the film), you'd be apprehensive, TOO!

Just posted a thread in the mainstream list section about a tribute tcm had for thelma todd on monday and I watched a few of her shorts and I saw a lot more tickling scenes! Check it out if u want.
