There's no gentle way to bring up a subject like this, so I'm just going to come out with it. A former co-worker of my father's committed suicide this morning. I don't know how close they were other than they apparently got along very well on the job. From what I hear, this man always seemed so cheery. But apparently, as my dad put it, he had been "living like a hermit" for a while now. He was also recently diagnosed with Parkinson's.
I got to thinking about this whole thing because you just never seem to know what people are feeling inside. A man who by most accounts seemed very happy ends up taking his life and leaving his loved ones behind. I can only imagine that something much deeper lead to this drastic action. For my dad, this is a very confusing thing to attempt to come to terms with. I imagine it is for this man's remaining friends and family as well. All they can do now is pray.
