"Leadership".......one of the many buzzwords bandied about most companies on a regular basis. It can be used to try and
motivate - "Everyone can be a leader...in their own way"
single-out (positively) - "His leadership skills are what drove this project to a successful conclusion..."
single-out (negatively) - "His failure to take leadership role as part of these on-going issues clearly identify the larger issue at hand..."
The intended "prime examples" of what it means to be a "leader" in any company is supposed to be it's executive leadership at the board level or some other positions that's high up on the "food chain". Or at least, that's what they want us to believe anyway......
My company has embarked upon a number of "token" initiatives to recognize and show how the average worker (e.g. me) is appreciated. to that end they've created an internal website for our group to display accomplishments/announcements/etc......
What it's now turned into is a place by which our CIO and other global VPs can post their accomplishments and awards received outside of work. no mention of any accomplishments from any other associates under a VP level.
Please.....you beat it into us everyday how wonderful you are and how appreciative we should be that we work for you.....building a website to enshrine that viewpoint really wasn't necessary.
