After thinking about it, I decided to go with an RV. The biggest issue I have is manuevering a trailer in and out of my backyard so I can hitch and unhitch it. I can probably do it with a little more experience, but I should probably get used to larger vehicles first. It will be easier to drive a single unit in and out of wherever I want.
I'm studying up on engines and basic mechanics. If I can identify the obvious things myself, that will help in case of an emergency. I already have an idea of how I want to update an engine if I need it, but that would take some more learning and studying. My expertise goes to changing out fluids, and changing a battery at the moment, lol.
I can only afford an older RV at the moment, but I worry about any invisible damage. If it looks good but the frame is rotted out, it'll be a pain to have to pull it all out, and would just be a waste of time. I don't know how to check it yet, but I'm trying to look up basic repair videos to see how much I could realistically handle. RVs at least are sturdier than campers.
Good news is I can start small and possibly get a larger camper or trailer later. If I dedicate one to just the "scary" tickle space, an editing station, and basic travel necessities, I'll be able to zip wherever I want, and start filming right away to make money back. If I happen to stumble across a larger one for cheap, I'll add another space for a fake bedroom for more casual videos. Otherwise I can just make another small camper for that. Different looks for different audiences. But that I can make later anyway.
Would be nice if I could crowdfund, but given circumstances I doubt anyone would trust me enough to actually add money lol. After I get it all mostly fixed up I can probably begin renting it out right away, as I start traveling and filming. I'd probably have to make a small site with a rough schedule of areas I'd be in, and take reservations that way.
Either way, at least I've narrowed down what I'me looking for. I'll wait until next week before actually buying. I still need time to learn the basics of an RV and repairs first.
