A couple of weeks ago. I forget exactly what day... an old electric shaver went dead. I don't even remember what year it was from. Either from my years in Lancaster, at least before 2012 then, or maybe my early days in NY, so seven years or much more.
I figured.. okay. Amazon has always been best for price, etc. I can go.. a couple of days without shaving.
I bought a shaver, I forget even what brand. that was.. relatively cheap.
When I got it, the freaking thing fell apart.
I got Amazon on the phone.
I found out in the fifteen years I had been dealing with them, I had never returned anything. Perhaps mainly because I have bought only shirts, books, etc, from them.
The very kind lady who helped me on the phone. saw that I had never returned anything. Thus, she kindly gave me a refund.
Then, with the refund, I bought a Phillips Norelco shaver, a brand I've had good success with.
I was waiting for that one to come, and it was supposed to arrive on Monday of this week.
Monday comes, I check Amazon, and the status said. "Refused"
I was like WTF?
Sure enough, I call Amazon, and for whatever reason, the package with the shaver was refused and not signed for by my building, which has never happened before in the seven years I'm here.
So.. I had to call Amazon again. They saw the problem, and thankfully gave me another refund.
When the money finally was refunded. I said. "To hell with this"
I went into Target, and bought a Phillips Norelco there.
In the meantime, I had about two to three weeks beard growth.
When I saw my Dad on Father's Day, he liked the beard.
My Dad grew a beard a few years ago when he sold his company. He had it for only a short time. Either he did not like it, or his wife asked him to shave it off.
Tonight, when I came home, after a long shave, the beard is gone.
I don't shave every day, and will sometimes let it grow, 3 to 4 days, before it starts bothering me. The only time I grew it more than that. I let it grow in a week or ten days when I went back to PA after my mom passed away, and was sitting shiva and mourning, and did not really give a damn what I looked like.
The only way I would probably grow back a full beard, would be if I got a job/position where the people I worked for, or co workers, were accepted to have it, and/or if a woman I was dating/involved with/married to, were okay with me having it.
Even though I have very little grey hair on my head, I noticed when I let it grow in this much, that even though the hair on my head is light brown, my beard was looking quite grey. I guess not unusual for a guy who is going to be 50 in January.
It was just all.. unusual. The beard probably would have been gone last week or Monday if the first shaver did not fall apart, or the package on Monday had been accepted by the building.
I'm glad its gone now. I don't plan to let it grow in any more than the usual two to three days I always do. Any more than that just feels.. odd.
