If forum members knew how much money I spend on my expenses, they probably would not think I'm cheap. However, lately, when it comes to food in the house, I have been.
Maybe I dont eat a well balanced diet, but, as I eat out a lot because of my visits to the home to see my mom, when I'm in my apartment, I eat very few things. Among them are bread, bananas, sherbert, ham, diet pepsi, and iced tea.
Buying food for just one person is tough. The first week that my mom was in the home, I bought a bakery white bread from the market that cost me $5. That bothered me. Worse so, is that because I'm the only one here, I ended up throwing at least a quarter of a loaf, to half a loaf out after a week, because it went old and stale.
After that happened, I knew I wanted to, and had, to find a cheaper option, so.. I bought Sunbeam White Bread, for the low price of $1.99. (At least it was lower than the damn bakery white bread). I'm slowly going through it. I keep thinking of how when my mom was here, we used to buy bagels, rolls, lots of different breads, etc etc. She's always had the philsophy that she doesnt care if she doesnt eat out, buy clothes, or entertain, but our money should be spent on good food on the table. I buy white bread for several reasons. Not only the cost.. but.. as everyone knows, bagels, rolls, etc, etc are fattening as hell, and while I've lost a few lbs lately.. I need to lose more.
I was taught by both my mom and my maternal grandmother not to be cheap with food, even if they had to cut out something else. I see their point. It's just,. it offends me to buy expensive food, if its going to go to waste.
