I finally saw my new psychiatrist today, and although he won't be counseling me, he was able to make a pretty quick diagnosis. I went in armed with family history and other information/questionnaires, and we talked and he was able to make a diagnosis. It didn't surprise my mom when I told her. I guess it shouldn't surprise me either. He put me on a mood stabilizer, which has to be introduced to the system very, very slowly and gradually. It can take 3-6 months before it's completely in my system at a therapeutic dose. So don't expect any drastic changes immediately. 😛 I'll stay on my ADD meds and my anxiety meds for now, until the new medication is fully in my system.
I'm so glad to finally have an explanation, and to know that some sense of normality is on the horizon for me. I wish he did counseling as well, but sadly not all psychiatrists do. He did offer me a referral, which I will check out, but I'm going to get back to looking for a therapist, perhaps one that is familiar with D/s relationships. They do exist. 🙂 I'll blog about that journey in my D/s blog as I travel it.
Thank you to my friends who love me even though I am who I am. I probably would've flown the coop by now without you. And thank you Miss Lee, my amazing Owner. You've not just put up with me through everything for over two years now, but you embrace my quirks, push me to do things I never thought I could do, and give me what I need, and not what I want. I love you and I would never, ever be a fraction of the submissive I am today without your training, guidance, and tough love.
