As I type this, my eyes filled with tears, I ponder how it would feel to call, to set up a relinquishment appointment, to hug my cat one last time before giving him up to the San Diego SPCA so he can get the care he needs for an injury I, nor my mother, has the money to pay so it can get treated. That has become my daily experience. I wonder how hard it would be to comfort my mother and soothe her tears, all the while holding my own tears back. I am a college student, living with my mother who works only part time (around the area of ten hours a week) at less than ten dollars an hour.
On Tuesday (May 5th, 2009) our cat, whose name is Kar (pronounced Car), developed a limp, and the morning following, he would not walk on it, so he began to hop on three legs. We have tried desperately to get help, trying everything from charitable organizations made for helping pets get their much needed treatment. That got us nowhere. Our next tactic was to try and plead (tearfully) with various veterinarians to help our beloved pet for no cost. We love our cat dearly, whom we have had for three wonderful years. We want nothing more than to get the help he needs, and be able to keep him in our home. Hearing his pained meows is devastating, and makes me want to do anything just to get the money we need. The hardest thing is seeing him suffer and being helpless to alleviate his pain.
