The title of today's blog entry has to do with what I know about the subject, which is very little, but more importantly, how I recently encountered it in my life.
I have a cute professor, who has had her PhD for a short time, a few years I guess, who I occasionally strike up in conversation because I am upper level and I like to connect with my professors.
Well we were talking about Machiavelli, you know, Italian politician, gets exiled, gets brought back, then exiled again for being on the wrong side all the time, wrote a book to the Prince called the Prince... anyway...
before he was exiled, he was tortured for a while, ultimately, the final torture they decided for him was that he was not allowed to engage in politics anymore, so they banished him from politics. He was like: NO!
but before that final punishment, they had him suffer the strappado, which I'm sure some of you recognize. so she demonstrated the position for us and went through step by step of what happened... it was hard to concentrate for the rest of the day...
Now I'm not about causing any pain, but I did think her knowledge of the position was quite kinky, but of course I'd never bring it up to her...
or should I?
