I asked my roommate if he wanted to play racquetball with me after my class tonight. he said "dude, the WWE draft is tonight!" I realized there was no talking him out of it so I guess I'm going to have to do something lame like cycle or something. but this statement leads me to one of the phenomena of social activity that I notice every once in a while.
when he first moved in, I walked into his room and he was watching Monday Night Raw which is this wrestling show. I used to watch it when i was about 10 to around 15 or 16. I mean I didn't ever miss it. but then I grew out of it or stopped caring or started doing other things. I will say that I definitely hated it after I recognized story lines and that it wasn't real and that sort of thing. I still think that the in-ring stuff is entertaining, but everything else sucks.
so as soon as I walk in he says "dude I only watch it because it's so ridiculous" to which I replied "ok." he didn't need to justify his watching that show but he did anyway. people are so worried about how they will be judged that they sometimes overreact. that's the main thing that I see.
this is on par with the "I only read Playboy because of the articles" or the "I only go to Hooters because I really like the wings." obviously, those that know me will know that I will not eliminate anybody's real tendencies based on my assumptions. so of course there are people who really do read Playboy for the articles. but why bother explaining your actions? I think you show just as much about your personality if you are just honest and straightforward. the truth is very interesting!
for the record, I love the wings at Hooters and the half naked girls. I like the girls better (at least on busy days). I've never actually seen or held a Playboy so I can't say anything about that other phrase, but come on, we've got the internet. if I want articles, I read the news. if I want nakedness, I find it. and WWE sucks. WWF was the shit.
