It's got it all : a handsome lead with the rugged face of a man who has seen his fair share of horror and violence. The theme of individuality vs the government. Of doing what's right vs what's written in the law book; a man's conscience vs the rules. Of seeking justice in a lawless environment. Guns. Lots of guns. And even freaking HORSES!

It's been a long time since I last saw a piece of fiction so purely American in its themes and inspiration. I hope FOX will deliver, cause I'll definitely be watching this :usa:

Have you ever watched "The Wire" Tenebrae?

Can't say I have. I gave it a shot once during a flight to Hong-Kong but found it a little boring, compared to other shows of the same ilk, like Oz (my favorite), NYPD Blue or The Shield.

I love the scene in the Wire when the police are all gathered to ask how one of their number cleaned up the streets of the city without arresting a mass amount of dealers and addicts. When they found out that the Police Captain in question basically established "free zones" in the city that gave the dealers the ability to deal drugs without bring arrested, they all got outraged and upset.

The reason for their anger was shocking though as you find out that the police wanted to arrest the dealers and addicts in order to confiscate the drug money (aka most of the cops in the city were dirty). The really sad part is the "free zones" were working. Not only where they taking the power away from the cartels and gangs by essentially legalizing drugs they also cleaned up the city so that there wasn't a drug dealer every ten feet down every street.

David Simon is a pretty liberal fellow, so I am not surprised he came up with this storyline. I really loved the book he wrote about the time he spent immersed in the Baltimore Police Department. It was a source of great inspiration for me. I was particularly impressed by the descriptions he made of the interrogations. How to gain the trust of a violently abused child so that (s)he will help the force protect him/her from his/her parents? How to connect, as an educated man, with the hollow shell of a youngster who never opened a book in his life and can barely sign his name? How to psychologically drill through the armor a hardened criminal who's ready to burn his girlfriend alive to protect his drug stash has built to protect himself? The answer is very surprising.

We have differing views on drugs. Simply put, I do not think of Mr Simon's solution as a good one. I favor another method, but I don't want to start a debate here ;)
