Beautiful story, Bugman! I'd be nervous too if I hadn't flown one of those things since the 40s! Especially if I had had to bail out and got captured! He's cool, "I treated it with respect and in turn, it treated me with respect." Good for him.
Hey, speaking of the Spitfire: highly recommended: "Going Solo" by Roald Dahl, a super short book, you could read it in an afternoon, all about his vivid memories of flying Spitfires against the Germans in the beginning of World War II......16 of them defending all of Greece against the massive German force.....riveting, you feel like you're in that cockpit, in dogfights, what it feels like to shoot down a plane, what it feels like to crash...unbelievable book..... page after page, written with such economy like only that great man could, if you've ever read his books, whether or not it's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Switch Bitch, you know what I'm talking about. Super easy read. Get yourself a copy, you won't be able to put it down. He starts the book a boy and comes out a hard-boiled solider.
Thanks Buggy!
