Just had a look at the trailer for the forthcoming film (Feb 2015) and the reviews i have read seem similar to the book reviews.
The moral ground being taken by the PC, rising the usual concerns about the influence on society and the pornographic fetish elements. The more liberal folk saying its a bit tame.

I thought the trailer was quiet good with a sensual element, and the actors seem to be right for the job, and it was to my mind a little tame, given that trailers in general lead us to have great expectations of the coming film, which after we have watched the film very often don't live up to the trailers promises. On that basis is the film going to be good.

The three books making up the "fifty shades of grey" were a sell out and the film, i guess will be also.

I'am into the BDSM domination/submission situation and the bondage element, together with the humiliation and chastisement, which can be linked to other types of fetish like tickling, with great advantage, but not a advocate of the extreme pain type situations.

ah, Like the hype that went with 9 1/2 Weeks from the 80's.... McBDSM for the masses...AND you can get a hot apple pie for just a dollar more.

Something tells me Hollywood is going to learn that the success of the book was that the fantasy is always better in between the ears of the horny housewife. That cannot be translated to film.

I predict, "meh"

I agree with your assessment. I predict "why bother"!

Personally not a fan of 50 Shades. It's not a healthy relationship or portrayal of a BDSM relationship lifestyle. Being glorified Twilight fanfiction (which used to be printed right on the inside cover, a little disclaimer), their dynamic is based on Edward and Bella, and I could have a field day about how unhealthy THAT relationship is... but I digress. There's so many more better books out there depicting this kind of activity, and more interesting/better done/not so tame activity I might add, if people would just look for them.

That being said, the trailer looks okay I guess. I'm not going to spend my money on it, but I might watch it and laugh my ass off if given a free opportunity to do so.

AWESOME!

I'm glad this book finally got made into a movie.

I didn't read the stupid book and I'm TOTALLY not going to watch the stupid movie.

And Grasshoppers are cannibals.

I just downloaded the book last night. I haven't read it yet, which is really bad to admit out loud. I spend all my time reading nursing textbooks, which is not really any better to admit either. (Life is exciting right now. Can you tell?) But I did watch the trailer for the movie last night and I'm curious about how well it will follow the book.

My boyfriend showed me 9 1/2 weeks and I enjoyed it. I liked it way better then the Secretary. I'll probably wait for Fifty Shades to come out on DVD or see if it streams.
