I received the opportunity to view the special advanced screening of Fred Claus today and thought I'd write a small review for anyone interested.
Note: Some of these comments might give a way a few aspects of the story, but nothing should ruin the movie for you.
The board wants to shut Santa down! Mr. Clyde Northcut has come to oversee the operations taking place at the north pole this Christmas. If things aren't in well working order, Santa Claus could be fired! The stress of this situation cannot compare to the fact that Santa's brother, Fred, is coming up to visit.
Fred is a con artist of sorts and has convinced his brother to let him come work at the North Pole in order to raise some extra money to start a business in Chicago, IL. Fred's negative attitude towards his brother started long ago when they were both children. Constant "Why can't you be more like your brother," never sits well with Fred.
While at the North Pole, Fred tries his best to interact well with the other elves, but his best efforts are frowned upon by dear Saint Nicolas.
The movie overall was very entertaining. The humor of Vince Vauhn is classic and enjoyable for everyone. Many scenes are extremely predictable and cliche, but the story stays on track and keeps you looking forward to what other funny episodes will happen next.
So, in conclusion, aside from the retarded 15 year old girls, snorting and commenting on every line said, the movie was an enjoyable one and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed The Break Up or Wedding Crashers. This movie is an excellent addition to the Vince Vauhn collection and if you're looking for a good laugh along with a decent story line to back it up, I encourage you to make your way to this movie.
