So April is National Poetry Month. During the entire month of April writers are supposed to compose one poem a day. I understand not everyone can write an entire lengthy poem everyday so I challenge you all to write a haiku a day and post it here with me. What is a haiku you ask, well I'd love to inform you. A haiku is a poem consisting of 17 syllables (traditionally there is a 5/7/5 format but don't worry about it). So that's it, 17 syllables a day for 30 days. I hope to see all of your beautiful haiku. Here are my three which I've completed for the first 3 days of April.

1. Cracks are running down my neck from the bomb shelter I’ve built above it.
2. Your lips are rusting shut because the shit you say is getting to old.
3. Love tastes bitter like a saxophone reed, it’s why falling feels so sharp.

I'll try, but it I won't stick to that 5/7/5 rule

1)
Love is like the seasons
Always Changing
Warm and Cold but Everlasting

2)
The sting of winter's wind
Bittersweet
Cured by Spring's warmth

3)
Tears are like
A Midsummer's Rain
Cleansing the soul of pain

I may come up with more, but I haven't done these in a long time

I'll start with something a little relevant. Whether I remember to keep this up is a different matter.

Tickle, tickle, tick
Hands flutter across my ribs
It's too much to take

~

Autumn winds still blow
Even though it is April
What the Hell, England?

~

This is Haiku three
I'm running out of ideas
I'm glad I'm done now

Fail, oh fail
Oh fail fail fail failing fail
Failing, oh fail failure

A haiku a day?
What are we, machines? I say
Henry Ford,... you cur.

4. He rests against walls like a shadow, hoping he can be spared from change.

Got "writer's block," mate?
Here's a clue. No writer's block
Can withstand haiku.

5. Remind your fists that anger is the shortest distance to a mistake.

6. The shadows of balled fists look like mountain tops resting on our knuckles.

7. Glass ceilings are easy to look down through yet the hardest to clean up.

Ok, jc,... being as it's National Poetry Month, I'll at least try to play another round or two. But not feeling a haiku at the moment; they're like drinking a 3 oz. beer. Might want to go freestyle. Here's a couple of previously published (years ago) quatrains which I always liked. It's called, "Old Zeb."

I was there when they hanged old Zeb
From that oak tree outside town.
And I was the only one who laughed
When they finally cut Zeb down.

I laughed as they carried him to his grave,
And I laughed as they lowered him in.
And even now when I think of old Zeb,
I have to laugh again.

8. A flower of a universe flows through my mind and will wilt with age.

A haiku twist on an old classic:

Here I sit, broken of heart...
I hath TRIED to shit,
But only managed a fart.

Two tickle monster inspired ones:

A feather's journey
Fluttering from heel to toe
Impish affection

*******

Irresistible
Reaching high, armpits exposed
Oh, how I'm tempted

9. My last breath is dressed in an orange jump suit, waiting for its release.
10. We build pedestals like empires, unaware of how quickly they fall.
11. You keep a full clip in your throat so when I speak you can shoot me down.

Cold and rainy now
Chance of rain all this weekend
I live where it's grey

12. She keeps bee hives behind her lips so men can taste the queen inside her.

From sae's collective of inappropriate haikus

Sweet like jasmine blooms
scent carried on a soft breeze
Chupacabra farts

Okay, just stop now
Get off me, im sore and tired
make me a sandwich

Oh Bucktooth Betty
how beautiful you became
With drink and darkness

Sorry I'm late to the game, but here goes:

Fingers dance on soles
One hand ballet, just for you
Laughter, your applause
