Is the TMF a lot less active than it was, and if so why?

Is the TMF a lot less active than it used to be? I think so, why is that? I was last active here in 2017, and I noticed at that time people posted on threads non stop, with little or no pauses, similar to what you'd find in a chat room, but now it seems very slow. Is this the same now with all the social media sites? I think so. I think the change happened with Covid, and all the other terrible stuff that's happened in its wake. Many people now are homeless or out of work, etc. Or is there another reason?

In my opinion, forums in general are dying out lately. I think Discord was a huge game changer that took a lot of people away from niche forums, and I am not just referring to this one. It's a bit of a shame, but I still think there's place for forums. However, a more user friendly interface wouldn't hurt and would attract more people. Otherwise, I like TMF. Not been here for that long yet, but I am really enjoying the chat room.

Oh that's right, I have heard about Discord, another one someone just told me about is KIK, they asked me to chat with them there. A couple people here told me about a tickling group in Discord, so I went in there and I couldn't make heads or tales of it, there were all these different departments in the same group, and the people there all had avatars that looked like Pokemon characters or those manga cartoons. It was really confusing so I left. To me, it seemed more like just a place to chat. But I like the TMF much better, because it's not just a chat room but a forum too, and it's pretty easy to navigate. Also you can see it, Discord is all dark and weird looking.

One thing that could jump start discussions here would be for people to go waaaay back and look at some of the great stuff from then. I wouldn't be surprised if lots of us would see some stuff we might have missed from then! Just an idea... ;)

I agree. I remember TMF from the old days, and there was a lot of interesting stuff, posts, conversations, etc. I admit I don't look at the Video Clips or Pics and Images section anymore, since these days I'm more into Tickling Discussion in general...maybe I feel I've seen enough of all that, and at this point I'd just like to connect with others. But I don't see much going on in this section, not compared to what it was in the past. As for the TMF Chat Room, I've been there, and it's OK, but it seems to be mostly private messaging, and that's taking a chance, I find most of the time I do that I get no reply, or not much of one.

Maybe I'll take your advice and check out some stuff from the old days, and post it here in Tickling Discussion. Or at least, come up with something that everyone here will want to discuss. Maybe something unusual. I'm up for anything at this point!

Everything has a golden period, for this place it was probably the mid to late 00's

It's still a great place but a lot of the big personalities moved on with rise of other forms of social media. As Elyos said forums are becoming old fashioned unfortunately with the rise of things like discord.

I see. Well I guess I'm "old school", as they say. I did check out Discord and like I said, it wasn't my thing. And I think maybe those kind of sites are more phone oriented, whereas I don't like to use one to type, I find it way too difficult, so I use my personal computer, same as I always did.

Maybe I'll have to do a search and see what else is out there. I wasn't crazy about Discord, but there may be other ones I like. For the longest time, I thought of TMF as the main one, and I think it was, at one time anyway. That and Tickle Theater, which I heard isn't even around anymore.

I've never used discord myself so can't comment too much on it.

Yea tickle theatre was really popular for a few years seemed to attract a younger crowd than on here. I can't remember why it ended up shutting down.

Nobody was participating anymore. Either gone or staying dead quiet. I stuck with it until it shut down, making humor and art posts no one responded to. Heartbreaking. God, I loved that place.

Yeah I totally get it now. Like I said, I didn't like Discord. As for Twitter, I was never there but I heard a lot about it. Hugely popular sites like that I don't trust or feel comfortable with, for a lot of reasons. And Reddit I've heard of but haven't tried yet. I have a feeling though that I'll be more comfortable here on TMF. It may not be as popular as it once was, but I always preferred the classic stuff, it can't be beat.

I think part of the problem is that there's only so much you can say about tickling before topics start to loop and get boring for long-timers.

I mean, think about it; there's basically four subjects that get endlessly re-hashed and every post/reply is some variation of a cliche. If you hang around here long enough you start to notice the patterns and the repetition and ultimately, it gets fucking boring. Once I started Sole Mates and delved into the offline tickling community I stopped coming here to discuss stuff, only to promote - which brings its own particular subset of repetitive, substance-lacking posts. I can usually predict what people are going to say before they say it. It's just... overdone.

I know what you mean. It's a matter of "been there done that." But I started getting active here because I realized I finally want to connect with someone; I'm no longer interested in watching the videos, etc. For me personally, that's just frustrating. But from what I can see, posting in the forum doesn't exactly help you to meet anyone, though the chat room is good for that. So maybe that's where I need to focus. I like posting in the forum, but yeah, I don't think there's anything new to post about.

I remember the old days back when an individual Forum per topic used to be the standard and the TMF was considered a very good site where a lot of producers siphoned are material through to their clips for sale accounts. Then after a while you could read about model drama posted or who had a fake laugh or who was being legitimate versus not legitimate for all sorts of arguments and you'd see fewer Clips gradually be a little online and the artists started using Patreon because they wanted compensation for their artwork. A lot of traffic went to Reddit. Reddit has looser restrictions because people generally want to talk or post about what they want to talk about and it doesn't require as much Authentication to be able to navigate through Reddit to a diverse array of topics. Tumblr decided to close up on things very considered porn until they had to compromise somewhere along the line. I've seen people that want to talk on Discord. I don't like that it's all connected to me so therefore somebody can see what servers I'm joined with as it makes me a little bit paranoid. But generally, the internet is and has been in the state of creation and then consolidation that applies to all topics. I also quit posting for a while because I used to get into an argument with various users consistently and I just gave up on it.

That and I also decided to enroll in school for a master's degree and there just hasn't been time to use forums as much as I used to when I was busy but luckily I finished up that and I got caught up in the work world.

But I still wanted to visit before to see what was going on from time to time. In some regards, it's nice that the place hasn't changed.

Well, I do feel comfortable here. I was in and out of Discord very quickly because it was way too overwhelming to me, and looked all dark and creepy. And I can relate to not wanting to be tracked and all that. I never did like sites like that, I was on Facebook a while back but eventually left once I found out they store and sell all your personal info. I think I'll stay here, for now anyway.

Well…. I’m here. I mostly post true stories of tickle sessions I have and other experiences. I don’t like the other sites and TMF has some cool people. I like writing and sharing my true experiences with others and get ideas from them as well as give some ideas. I agree it’s been slower and people haven’t been posting many true stories. I’ll have to post more!

Stories are something I definitely want to post here, when I have time, and energy. I have imagined some great tickling fiction, but I think it takes a lot of patience to sit down and type it all out, but it's definitely a plan. The TMF seems like the perfect place to do it.

THIS! 100%!

I appreciate the TMF so much that I am a supporter through Patreon. I’ve been here a long time and will always appreciate all of the content here. Here’s why activity is dwindling.

1) When compared to other social, the interface is dated. When you post something elsewhere, you get immediate, real time feedback. We all love the dopamine rush we get from “likes”.
2) It was previously mentioned, but, there gets to a point in time where there is only so much to say about tickling. Particularly if you have real world tickling experiences.
3) Fixation on posts that add little value to the TMF experience. I’m always stunned when a trite post has has pages and pages of responses. Typically on mind numbing topic.
4) Bickering. I see so much bickering within posts. Apparently, arguing about issues on the TMF is a mountain that many are willing to die on. A lot of us don’t care for the bickering amongst members.
5) Lastly, and most importantly. The rise of trolls, contrarians, and armchair video producers. It’s really quite irritating when you make an effort to add quality content to this forum. And other members, who have never contributed anything of value to the community at large, critique and criticize. Only naysaying. It discourages members to add to the forum or a discussion.

I agree. At this point I'm looking to connect with someone, not just talk about the same subjects over and over. So maybe I should check out the other platforms, despite my apprehension about it. As I was saying, I was last active here six years ago, and I can't believe the difference. So I guess if everyone else is going to different sites, maybe I should too. I'll stay here, but now that I see the comments on this post, I realize most of it is now elsewhere.

Life happens. We’re getting older and are busier. The younger generations have TikTok/Reddit/Fetlife/instagram/discord to find other like minded fetishist. TMF will always be the OG, but our older members are literally dying!

It's a niche site based on a niche fetish. The TMF was popular back in the days before the social media era because a lot of Gen X and Millennials were discovering and getting into the fetish and this site was pretty much the only major tickling hub on the internet at the time. Gen Z has Twitter, Tik Tok, Discord, Reddit, Onlyfans, Tumblr, basically a bunch of other options for talking about and partaking in the fetish, so they aren't funneling into this site at high rates as people were back in the late 90s-mid 00s.

Yes I totally understand, now. I have heard of those sites, but I always avoided them, for a LOT of reasons. Tik Tok, for a start, is Chinese surveillance. And the others are not exactly private either. Nothing is on the net, but I do feel safe here, at least somewhat. And I like the format. Discord I did check out, but it looked all dark and creepy, not to mention confusing, and the tickling group there was all these avatars with ninja characters, or manga or whatever that's called. I got the feeling I was around a bunch of young kids speaking a different language. I'm not saying that's bad, but maybe it's not my thing.

I have a feeling that at least on TMF, I'll be around those my own age. Or close. I guess it's hard for me to take chances... :ermm:

For me, TMF is the place to come for Ticklish Celebrity news, Mainstream finds, and stories (which are not nearly as numerous in high quality as in the golden era). I’ve never had much interest in the discussion groups, as there are so many people with zero real life relationship experience and more than a few creepazoids. If I were looking for romance, I don’t have a lot of confidence that the women I like would be hanging out here among said creepazoids. A simple “like” button would work wonders for engagement here.
