Login problem

I use to login by selecting "remember me" option to always stay logged on, but everytime i restart me browser and go again on the forum, i have to login again... I accept cookies from the forum and don't delete them, so, where the problem could come from ? Thank you.

Same thing is happening to me, ever since the site was upgraded. I use IE7.

Two possibilities spring to mind. Tell me, how much space is allocated for your temporary internet files in IE7? If you allow cookies but set the allowed space for them to a very low number of megabytes, you will not remain logged in. To see how much space you have allocated, go to the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options." Click "Settings" under "Browser History" on the "General" tab and look at the allowed number of megabytes to use.

A related problem might be that you need to clear your temporary internet files, as a bad cookie may be causing the problem. The "Delete" button next to "Settings" will do this.

The only other thing I can think of is that the slider in the "Privacy" tab is set to something other than "Medium." Is this the case?

My temp internet files are fine, my drive is large. It already occurred to me that the privacy settings could be the cause, and it is on medium. I'd rather sign in manually than lower the security settings, though.

Hmm ... as I cannot replicate the problem with IE7 on my machine, I must question what else could be the cause. Tell me, what antivirus or firewall (Firewall, more than likely) program (if any) do you use? A setting on the firewall could be overriding IE7.

I use McAfee firewall, but that's been in place for ages, years before this problem emerged.

I think I might have it, then. One issue with cookies that pops up every so often has to do with the "www". If you use http://www.tickletheater.com to access the forum, a cookie is made for http://www.tickletheater.com. However, if you type in only http://tickletheater.com, the cookie for the address with www will not work and you will have to log in again. Then, whenever you click on a link inside the forum, you are taken to a page using the "www," as the forum software appears to be set to produce links with www included. Do you normally just go to http://tickletheater.com when you visit the forum? If so, try with the www and see what happens (Type in http://www.tickletheater.com, log in, and browse. Then close your browser as normal and restart it. Navigate back to http://www.tickletheater.com and see if remained logged in you do.).

EDIT: The more I think about it, the less I like that answer. I'll wait and see what you or Cynthia has to say, however, before I think of more possibilities.

Before I go any further, have you tried using an alternative browser such as Firefox, Opera or Netscape? If they work and IE7 does not, some setting in IE7 is off and you may wish to reset all settings to their default values, something I will have to look up to see how to do.

Yep, it's clearly an IE7 thing, since it works normally in Netscape.

Yeah, I've just switched to Firefox, and the problem is gone there. Good advice.

Um... what happens if this problem happens while using FireFox?

Because I have to keep logging back in too!

Are you logging into the homepage where the news is, or the forum homepage with all the forums listed?

Are you logging into the homepage where the news is, or the forum homepage with all the forums listed?

If the "index" is "the homepage where the news is" then yes that where I log into...

I check the box at the rules page

That leads me to the hompage with the news at the top and the forums listed on the bottom...

I don't know but I might be buggy... here are some other problems.

1. TT doesn't keep the password when I check the "remember me" box.

2. TT frequently logs itself out...

What's going on? It wasn't like this when I had IE... :)

Clear out your temporary internet files including cookies, and log back into the site at the forum homepage:

http://www.tickletheater.com/forum.php

The index page is actually an addon to the forum so perhaps something is quirky with the login box for it.

Made a small change that might fix that problem. However, go ahead and just log into the forum homepage for now.

I've changed the setting in the site to set the cookie domain to .tickletheater.com which should let you stay logged in regardless of whether you're using "www." or not. The only thing though is the few small percentage of people for whatever reason using ticklephile.com will most likely have login problems.

Try it out and let me know if that fixed the issue. Sorry for the delay, I only noticed this setting while playing with another board. Heh...
