I read something in this comment sections years ago that I still think about occasionally. Someone was talking about tickling videos, and they said, "It's just a different type of porn." Is it? I'm not sure.
It seems like there are two ways to look at this little hobby of ours:
a.) We're fundamentally the same, it's just that our primary sexual turn-on isn't from the normie things, like boobs, butts or legs... but instead this different thing, i.e. our poking and their twitching. This would be like wanting mustard instead of ketchup on your hot dog. Ketchup might be the more popular, a.k.a. normie condiment, but otherwise, consider mustard or tickling both to be simple substitutions from the more common thing.
b.) Or... we're fundamentally different, because a fetish isn't like normal sexual attraction and normal turn-ons. This says fetishes are inherently more objectified and disconnected from the other person's unique qualities and personality. This theory holds that you wouldn't want your partner to have a fetish, because any stranger your partner meets could instantly fulfill their fetishistic needs just as much as you do (whether they act on it or not).
